I would be lying if I said these type of shots are created on the fly while climbers casually cruise their projects at night. In fact it’s quite the opposite as the unfortunate climber usually sits on the rope in total darkness waiting for me to set up the lights on the ground so that the desired amount of photons hit the rock in the right direction. Then when I successfully finish pretending I know what is going on they perform some ridiculous moves again and again in dark being blinded by the bursts of flash lights until everything lines up. While these shoots are usually one big show of shenanigans of uncertainty the moments of waiting for the long exposure to finish and then seeing the results on the camera screen are always pretty special. Huge thanks goes to @weebitwindy an absolute legend who can one-arm hang on demand and @dugmcc for being a belayer, remote camera operator and artistic director at the same time …. and of course the amazing Blue Mountains for creating such playgrounds like the Gateway Crag on the pic!
