Ladies, Women, Girls, Chicks…

Either way you spin it, they are all gamers.

Being married to an awesome lady who just happens to play videogames, I think I am the luckiest guy in the world. I love playing games with my wife and among our gaming group; she has really made a name for herself. She has been dubbed the “Gauged Defender”.

Anyone unlucky enough to have played us in some Halo would quickly learn her name. The best part was when they found out she was a girl. We heard the mix of props to down right nasty insults. She ran into the issues when she went online to play. It got so bad, that she really just don’t care to even play any multiplayer outside of our gaming group.

I have played many, many, many multiplayer games online and also have been the target of some nasty stuff. From the racial slurs to the death threats to the just plain ignorant stupidity. Our group has named these idiots “Xbox Live Thugs”. A high percentage of the times, these are just some kids, hiding behind a mic somewhere. I guess because I am a guy, it’s really not that bothering to me. However, I have been in matches with a girl and heard the things that come out of these jokers mouths. Sometimes they actually shock me.

Which is kind of why when ever I come across articles about the whole female gamer issue, I take close attention. I came across this blog which was just genius. The name of the blog is Not in the Kitchen Anymore, Audio recordings of men reacting to a female playing Call of Duty. The author is a 23 year old name J. Haniver who is a first person shooter specialist. Here is alittle more about her

…When I game online, I record audio in the lobbies of people reacting to playing against a female gamer. Sometimes the reactions are humorous, sometimes they are downright insulting. Even though female gamers are becoming more and more common, we are still largely treated as an anomaly.
