Helping a Great Veterans Organization on Veterans Day
As many of you know, I completed a Chicago Half-Marathon and Chicago Marathon this Summer and with those races I helped raise money for an organization called Salute, Inc. Salute helps support our military members and their families that have been impacted by a major injury while serving. As you know, military life is very hard on the young men and women that have been deployed oversees over the last decade -- the stress on these military members and their family is even greater in the terrible instances where the military member returns home with an injury.
Salute helps military members and their families in a number of ways
Direct Assistance - Financial support to or on behalf of military members and their families experiencing financial difficulties brought on by deployment, extended active duty or injury.
Nightingale Program - A collaborative effort with numerous private Hospitals and Rehabilitation Centers around the country providing financial assistance along with practical and emotional support to family members of severely injured hospitalized military members receiving specialized long-term treatment.
Wounded Warrior Lap Top Computer Program - A computer can be a lifeline to the outside world for those injured and receiving extended hospital and rehabilitation treatment.
Builders of Hope - A collaborative effort with builders/contractors/local businesses offering specially adapted home renovation opportunities to severely disabled military members and their families. (project basis)
Therapeutic Military Adaptive Sports Camps/Activities - Includes paralympic sports camp, cycling, fishing/hunting, horseback riding, skiing, water sports, and wheelchair basketball.
The Salute organization set out with a goal to raise $100,000 through Chicago Marathon fundraising before Veterans Day (November 11th). We are just about $6,000 short of reaching the goal and I would love for your help so they can fund these important programs.
Any help that you might be able to provide to this great organization would be greatly appreciated. The organization has a very small staff and almost all funds go directly to the Veterans and Military Members.
