Nixie quirked a brow at his response, “You can’t sleep so you pick up a textbook?” She asked, rolling her eyes a little. “Surely there’s something more interesting you could spend your time on.” She said. “You really don’t expect me to be boring enough to go to bed early do you?”

“Well, yes. It’s relaxing?” Phineas arched an eyebrow as he glanced over at the other. “Like what?” He muttered, but his mind flickered to the thought of his boyfriend and his cheeks flushed slightly. “It’s not even that early, Nixie.”

Phin was right, while Hugo had waited a rather long time before he decided he wanted to give it a chance with Phin, he knew it had been the right thing to do. Because now he could say with some confidence that Phin wouldn’t walk away from him. A nervous laugh left his lips at the other’s words and unsurprisingly, he began to stutter in response. “I mean, I want – I do want to – well, do I really have to answer this?” He was glad when he felt the other’s lips against his again, and as he kissed his back, he felt his nervousness melt away, instead replaced by the desire he felt for the other. “I want us too.” he murmured as he stepped back from the other long enough to pull his shirt over his head and throw it aside before, his lips pressed onto his again fervently. 

“Well communication is key in a relationship, is it not?” Phineas teased lightly, his words muffled against the other’s lips. As the other admitted to wanting them, Phineas’ lips curved into a wide smile - perhaps the most genuine smile he’d worn in years. His brows furrowed together as the other stepped away, before widening as the other pulled his shirt over his head. Holy shit. Phin’s cheeks flushed as his eyes were instantly roaming every inch of the other’s bare skin, only stopping when the other kissed him once more. His eyes fluttered shut as he moved his lips hungrily, desperately against Hugo’s. His arms snaked around the other’s waist, and without hesitation, moved them towards the bed, only breaking the kiss to press kisses against the other’s neck.

For once, Hugo was not uncertain about what he was doing, or of how the other would react. Phin had been letting him know every chance he got that he wanted him, and it had been Hugo who had kept on putting the space between them. He didn’t see the point of it any longer. A small whimper fell through his lips as the other pulled back from the kiss, but he allowed the moment to catch his breath as he rested his forehead against his. “Yeah, I am, I feel like I should have done this a long time ago.” he murmured breathlessly, before he began to feel an irrational fear that perhaps Phin had changed his mind. “I mean, unless you don’t want to..?” he added uncertainly. 

Phineas had to restrain himself from kissing the other again as he wimpered, almost desperate to have his lips against Hugo’s again. “I don’t blame you for waiting,” Phineas murmured quietly, before shaking his head as the other questioned him. “Are you kidding? Of course I do- I really, really do. I’d uh, happily go much, much further, if I’m being honest but I’ll go at whatever pace you want,” Phin admitted, cheeks colouring as he pressed his lips back against Hugo’s. “Trust me, there is nothing I want more than this, than us.”

“Hurts me to see it.” he whispered before his eyes went up to meet the other’s, the blush creeping back onto his cheeks as Phin spoke. He had barely even realized how close he was standing to him now, and the scared and nervous part of him told him step back, but he instead found himself stepping closer. “I’m tired of resisting.” he murmured, his free hand going up the settle at the nape of his neck before he pulled the other towards him and pressed their lips together. 

“I’m sorry,” Phineas admitted, hating that he upset the other, even if wasn’t entirely something he had control over. He just hated upsetting Hugo. He was about to shrug off his previous comment, hoping he hadn’t made the other uncomfortable when he stepped closer. At his words, Phineas’ brows shot upwards slightly and --- holy shit, Hugo was kissing him. The second Hugo’s lips touched his, Phineas returned the kiss, his hands going to the other’s waist to pull him closer. Phineas pulled away briefly, forehead resting against Hugo’s for a brief moment. “Are you sure?” He murmured softly, eyes searching Hugo’s.

“Phin, none of these marriages are about love. Even for… more compatible people.” Adira sipped at her drink, trying her best to ignore the sinking feeling in her stomach. She yearned for the sort of attention she’d never get, almost hungry for love. She forced a small smile. “Besides, there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re a good man, and we get along. We’ll be friends, and we’ll find a way to let you be happy.” 

“Yes, but Adira, at least most marriages you can try and make it work. No matter how hard I try, I will never be attracted to you like that,” He admitted, chewing on his lower lip. “Yeah, well apparently my parents don’t seem to agree there. Friends I can work with, but you deserve more than that. You deserve to be happy too. We-” He hesitated, “We both do.” It was one of the first times he’d actually admitted out loud that he deserved happiness, a weak smile curving at his lips as he thought of Hugo.

“–Hey there, stranger,” Adira teased, moving towards Phin’s spot at the Slytherin table. It’d been a while since she’d seen her betrothed, and she had to admit she’d felt the absence of his presence. Phin was sweet, and someone she’d like to consider a friend. “Is this seat taken?”

“Hey,” Phineas looked up from the book he’d been studying, a tired smile gracing his lips. “No, go ahead.” He gestured for her to sit. “How have you been holding up, recently?”

His eyes widened and he supposed it would be a good idea to turn his gaze away, not show the other how obviously flustered he was becoming as the other took off his shirt. But he didn’t, he swallowed as his eyes fell on his chest instead. He turned pale on seeing the scars which covered his skin however, and after a moment he stepped towards the other, concern etched on his features. This wasn’t what he imagined his reaction would be if Phin would take his shirt off when they were alone. “Phin.” he murmured, hesitantly extending his hand, letting his fingers trace his scars before he met his gaze, a questioning look on his features. Worry and dread filled him, he knew exactly how he got his scars, he had told him about his parents before – but it was a different thing to see for himself how they treated him. “I am sorry, I–” He didn’t know what else to say except sorry even though it would do nothing to help. 

As the other spoke his name, Phineas turned to face Hugo once more, his eyes falling down to the boy’s hand. His breath hitched and he swallowed, teeth tugging on his lower lip. “Sorry, I usually cover them up,” He admitted, his gaze flickering up to meet Hugo’s. “Don’t apologise, Hugo. Besides, they don’t hurt anymore.”  His eyes flickered down to where the boy’s hand was still on his chest, and a smile tugged at his lips. “You know, if you keep doing that, I’m going to find it harder to resist kissing you right now,” He told him honestly, looking back up at the other.

Nixie came down from her dorm to the common room, she was already in her pyjamas for the night, a little green silk short and button up top. She noticed the familiar face on the couch and smirked a little, “What’s got you waiting up, Phinny?” She teased, slipping onto the couch beside him.

Phineas was curled up on the couch, buried inside the textbook. He hadn’t noticed anyone come down, so he startled when she spoke. “Oh, Nixie. Sorry, just uh, couldn’t sleep,” He admitted sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. “What about you?”

He wondered if he would ever stop blushing at everything that Phin said at any point into their future. He really hoped so because he really wanted to stop making a fool of himself when he was with Phin and the first step would be to stop showing the other clearly how he was feeling – which was nervous. All the time. “Okay.” he said before his eyes widened at the others words. “Okay, um – you can, yeah. I’ll take this side?” he said dropping the pillow and blanket back on the bed. If the few times he had seen him in the gym taught him anything, it was that shirtless Phin was a very pretty sight, how much ever the other denied it.

Phineas smiled as he noted the other’s coloured cheeks. Before his teeth tugged on his lower lip, suddenly nervous as the other said he could be shirtless. Without breaking eye contact, Phineas reached for the back of his shirt, before tugging it off with one hand, tossing it to one side. He tried not to flinch at the fact his scars where now on display, something he usually kept covered. His eyes never left Hugo’s, studying the other’s reaction -- hoping he wouldn’t recoil. “Yeah, sure,” He murmured lowly, before moving towards the other side of the bed.

Hugo’s heart began to race at a million miles an hour when the other grabbed his hand and asked him to stay. This was what he had wanted when he had ask him to go with him, right? To spend more time with him and hopefully get rid of the sickening shyness and self-consciousnesses he felt whenever he saw Phineas. He swallowed, looking from the bed back at the boy. No, he wasn’t going to be uncomfortable with him, it was going to be a whole different feeling. “You want me to stay?” he asked, his tone slightly incredulous. “Won’t you be uncomfortable?” 

“Yeah, of course I do,” Phineas murmured, the smile tugging at his lips. “I came with you to spend time with you, Hugo.” As the other mentioned him being uncomfortable, Phineas shook his head. “No, I’ll be fine.” Probably not, but there was no way he was letting Hugo sleep on the couch and -- well, both of them were stubborn enough to argue about this for a while. “I uh, do sleep shirtless though. Just to forewarn you -- and uh, it’s not particularly a pretty sight.” Phineas swallowed, chewing on his lower lip.

This was not awkward at all. Hugo thought to himself as the two of them made their way to their room after dinner. It wasn’t that his uncle and aunt were poor by any means but it was not like they even knew all of Hugo’s family will be here by the time it was Easter. Plus Phin. They had a big enough apartment except it wasn’t meant to accommodate four kids all with separate rooms. “No, don’t be silly.” Hugo told the other, a blush colouring his cheeks. “ You’re my guest. Um, I’ll take the couch in the living room and you can just stay here.” He grabbed a pillow and a blanket so he could make his way out. 

“No, seriously Hugo, I can’t let you sleep on the couch. It’s your family,” Phineas tried to argue, frowning as the other went to leave. Before he could stop himself, Phin reached out to grab Hugo’s arm, tugging on it gently. “Wait--- stay. Please?” His teeth tugged on his lower lip, “Look, we can share the bed, we’re both grown adults,” Even if it was going to drive him insane, “I’d rather you stay with me. If you’re okay with it that is-- I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

“My sister likes to say that I’m too reckless for my own good, so maybe don’t listen to what I have to say,” Daisy said with a giggle. “But I think it works when talking about impulsively dying my hair.”

“Well, it depends on how reckless I suppose. Dying your hair isn’t that drastic. If you like, eloped with someone you’ve only known for a day, that’s slightly more reckless.”

Phineas wasn’t entirely sure how the fact they might have to share a room didn’t cross his mind before now. They’d finished dinner, and the two of them were standing in the room alone, Phin staring at the one bed in the room. 

“You can take the bed, I’ll just stay on the couch. Or the floor.” He suggested, chewing on his bottom lip. While he wouldn’t mind sharing a bed with Hugo, he didn’t want to make the other uncomfortable. That, and it would probably be some form of special torture to have to sleep next to the boy he had a gigantic crush on.

I know this is out of the blue but, if your plan really is to avoid home for the break, you can go with me, maybe? If it’s not too weird for you? I am leaving the day after tomorrow to meet my little sisters. My uncle won’t mind if I bring a friend.

Hugo stared at the note he had written for a long moment, going back and forth between wanting to send it and backing out of it. But in the end, with his anxiety reaching a whole new level, he sent the note to Phin, hoping he understood that Hugo wanted to spend a lot more time with him even though he wasn’t entirely sure what to label them as just yet. @phinparkinson

Phin wasn’t sure the other would ever reply to the letter he’d sent. So when he got the reply, his brows furrowed together. The smile tugged at his lips as he read, instantly writing a reply and sending it.

Hugo, 

I’m happy to hear from you. It wouldn’t be weird at all, I would love to, honestly. As long as your family is okay with it, I’d love to tag along. Like I said, I want to spend more time with you, if you’ll let me.

He smiled a little but he wasn’t too convinced by his words. “Are you sure about that?” he asked him doubtfully, although it was what Hugo wanted too. It didn’t help that he was not going to be at school for Easter, it was a long time to be away and who knew how Phin would feel by the time Hugo got back. “What are your plans for the Easter break?” 

“Yes. Without a doubt,” Phineas told him, tone filled with certainty. That was one thing he knew wasn’t going to change any time soon. “Easter? Well I’m not going home that’s for sure,” Phineas shrugged his shoulders, “So probably just staying here for two weeks, maybe annoy my sister. What about you?”

Caunus accepts the offered drink wordlessly, taking a sip. The liquid burns on his tongue, reminding him of its familiarness and the brunette knows in few minutes or less he’d be craving more. “Thanks.”

“No worries,” Phineas took a sip of his own, grimacing at the taste. “You alright there?”
