Q1. How did your understanding of coming up with new ideas change after this project?

After doing all the design challenges, I think more outside of the box, more likely to think more creative.

Q2. What was your "aha" moment in the project?

Might be we got to make accounting class more fun, not just dry material in classroom anymore, we get to use what we learn in the real situation.

Q3. What was the most challenging part of this project?

The visual concept is more difficult than other part of this project because this is the first time I learned about visual concept so it was a bit confused for me. But after we discuss in our group, we made a great visual concept.

This is our visual concept of our escape room pop-up event on campus.

In this activity, we need to draw the object that we will need for our pop-up event, and that is escape room.

We all agree that we need a lot of idea, people, and space.

This is my story board for our design challenge project. The situation start with students who take accounting class, then they came to our escape room and use the formula to found out the clue. At the end, they escape and learned how to use formula in real situation.

Now we have a solution for our accounting class! We are holding a pop-up escape room for accounting students, the only way out is to solve all the accounting problems. 

This is like a journey map for a non-accounting major student who take an accounting class. At first the student is failing the class because the class too hard to understand. Therefore, they went to our escape room to have the chance to use the formula that class have taught in the game. They end it up understand how to solve accounting problems, and get a better grade on their exams!

After Ryan Brown’s speech, we started to sketch our idea. Basically is about student whose not major in accounting and require to take accounting class. They don’t understand class material and don’t know where to look for help, and so end it up got a D- on their first midterm.

On February 28th, we have Ryan Brown as a guest speaker. He teach us to add motion on simple drawings, that was really fun. He also gave some advice for our design challenge, it was really helpful.

Our group are focusing on accounting class, so we list out the pains and gains for accounting class at OSU. We all agree that accounting are mostly dry materials, is hard to understand, and no interact lecture. Therefore, we try to find a solution to make accounting fun!

This is our second design challenge group, Abbie, Carly, and I. As the picture shows, we have similar working and thinking style. Also we all have specialties, Abbie is good at drawing, Carly is good at Illustrator, so we work pretty well together.

Today we talked about presentation of our research area, and we come out with three different solutions for the same problem.

This is my journey map based on our group’s research area. In this persona, I wrote about a senior student who’s going to graduate from OSU, and she needs a place to help her to get rid of old school materials. Her emotion gets bad while she think about packing stuff out, especially those useless school materials.

In this activity, we wrote about ideas that did not involve digital technologies. This activity is quite fun because nowadays most of the people are addicted to technology. By this activity we need to think outside of the box, it is interested.

In this activity, I made up ten bad ideas for our research area, which is learning materials. It is actually hard to think for ten bad ideas, and I found out by doing this activity, we can get some really good ideas. And is really fun activity.

In this activity we need to combine our research area(learning material) with another group’s research area(transportation). However, I come up with two idea. The first idea was not quite related to transportation in the way that the other group’s research area was, so I chose the second idea that provide transportation for students who want to come visit our second hand market on campus. I talked to my teammates about this idea and they think it is great and will work.

This is a mind map start from our group’s area, learning materials. So I start with material, then there are so many ideas pop up. This is a really good activity that we did in class, in this way we can think outside of the box, think about more broadly not just focusing on specific area.

School materials is our major research, these two persona are based on our research. One is a student who almost graduate and want to find a way to get rid off her used materials. Another persona is student’s mother want to save money on her daughter’s school expenses.

Frame your design challenge Our search is about school materials, either students have too many used materials that they want to get rid off, or freshmen students want to find some cheap used materials.
