Elijah smirked and took a long drag from his cigarette.  “Well, I’m happy I managed to make you laugh.  I was begining to think you weren’t capable.”

“I know, it’s crazy to think someone like me could laugh, but get a few drinks in me and...” She trailed off, offering a shrug and another small laugh. “Since I’m outside and unkissed though, I think I may just head home... Unless you want the allusive Phoebe O’Byrne kiss that is so impossible to get,” Phoebe joked.

Baby gave a cheshire grin as her eyes grazed over Phoebe’s body. “Oh you think it’s only boys who want to kiss you?”

Phoebe blushed as the other looked her up and down. Finally, she mumbled, “Well, not to sound like I’m bragging, but some other people might want to... I just haven’t decided where to kick yet.”

“Or me?”  It wasn’t hard to see why she would point out those three.  They all had a tendency to flirt with anything that moved– a pastime of Elijah’s when the mood struck.  His brow furrowed for a moment in confusion.  Some people just had the shittiest luck on New Years.  “Sounds like it was a serious relationship.  Either that or he was a serious toerag.”

To Elijah’s comment on her ex, Phoebe gave a soft laugh before shaking her head and looking at him, “You could say he was a bit of both really. I mean, I love him, but to be able to cheat on your girlfriend of several years... That has to be toerag material.”

“I already came all the way here, so I don’t see the point in immediately leaving before I even have the chance to eat,” Phoebe commented, eyeing the menu once again before smiling up to him. “Besides, I’m a journalist. I’ll always take the chance to get to know someone.”

Taking a quick drag from his cigarette, Elijah narrowed his eyes as he observed Phoebe.  “Isn’t your twin brother one of those boys?  You must hold him in such high esteem …”  He took another, longer drag and rolled his eyes as Phobebe continued on.  “It’s just a stupid kissing comepetition, besides, it’s New Year’s Eve.  Nearly everyone is expecting to kiss at least one person when the ball drops.  It’s tradition.”

“Yes, he is. But he’s also not Dom or James or Parker or... Do you get what I’m saying?” She halfheartedly joked, sighing as she realized how stupid she must have sounded. “Well, traditions were meant to be broken.” Yet, she had been the one to come to the party. Biting her lower lip, she couldn’t help as the few drinks she had made her a little more truthful, “Maybe I came because I’m hoping... Maybe this year I can feel less... Less like the girl who got cheated on and can’t feckin’ move on.”

“I would literally do anything for some weed,” Melina set her glass down, “I feel so mentally clogged right now.”

“Just ask Elijah. He tried selling me some at a party, so I’m sure he’d give some to you,” Phoebe mumbled, trying to focus on her writing as the two sat in their common area. “All I ask is that you smoke it outside of the sorority house so we don’t all get in trouble.”

Letting out an expressive sigh, Pat turned around to face her. “You’re not going to fail, Phoebs,” he said, rolling his eyes. “You study far more than I do, and I don’t fail. We just don’t fail,” he reiterated.

“What if this is the first for us?” She groaned, looking up to her brother and pouting. “Can you take a study break and go get chocolate with me? On top of these stupid finals, it’s... You know.”

“Do you think I really want to kiss someone who’s been vehemently against it?  No, I’m not offering you weed in exchange for a kiss. I’m offering to sell you weed to help you loosen the fuck up. It’s a party, but it seems more like it’s a chore.”  He caught the baggie and pushed it back into his pocket with a shrug.  “Sure. Whatever you say.” He mumbled, leaning back onto a stool behind the bar and taking a sip of his own drink.  “I need a cigarette.”  He muttered and stood right back up, dragging one of the freshmen and telling them to keep everyone away from the booze while he took a break, then walked out the back door.

Sighing, Phoebe handed off her drink to the freshman and followed Elijah. “Hey, I’m sorry for accusing you of exchanging weed for a kiss, but... I never know with the boys in this house.” She crossed her arms over her chest, staring over at him for a moment before adding in, “My defenses just go up when someone mentions that stupid kissing competition.”

“Happy New Year.” She hummed along, her face having gotten surprisingly redder as the had pulled away. Not quite sober enough to apologize - yet, she giggled eagerly and turned back to her drink as if nothing had happened. However, her hand had lingered wrapped around Phoebe’s till she pulled it back to knock back her alcohol. “Maybe this year’ll be better than the last.”

“To 2018,” Phoebe mumbled, raising her drink as she stared at Kelcie. Had she been imagining things? Drinking to much? Kelcie was acting like nothing had happened-- well, other than her reddened complexion. “I... I think I’m done drinking for the night though since we have to walk home.”

Kelcie’s face was a violent pink, loitering near the bar with Phoebe by her side. The night had already been filled with casual side-glances towards her partner in crime and each time she could feel her heart rising in her chest. However, she had never meant to project her admiration any farther than she might have already done. She was giggling at something, paying no attention to the people counting down around them. It was spur of the moment when she’d set her drink to the side, tugging the girl towards her and locking lips for only just a second.

Phoebe had her own fair share of drinks as the night went on against her better judgement. As everyone was counting down, she happily joined along, watching the screen and waiting for the ball to drop. But then, Kelcie kissed her and time seemed to stop. She raised her hands in defense but was surprisingly relaxed as the other girl pulled away. “Happy... New Year?”

That ball crushing thing must have been a fluke.” She shook her head as she rubbed her temples. “If it were me, I’d drag them along for a bit with a nice dirty make out session and then watch them squirm a bit and try to cover up their boners.”

“But I’m not like that,” Phoebe groaned, putting her head in her hands and sighing. “I don’t want anyone touching me like that or my lips touching anyone like that. I’d rather... I’d rather just kick them in the balls if they try. Worked for James, so it has to work for the other boys, right?”

Rolling her eyes and offering a small laugh at the other’s actions, Phoebe responded, “Full point” before dropping her hands to her side and shaking her head.

“Oh my,” Phoebe joked, letting out a laugh of her own. “Well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that it’s at least someone nice who asks for a kiss.”

Isabelle grinned widely at Phoebe’s yelps and grumbling to be let go. She was more than a little tipsy and thought that Phoebe might have just been playing.  “Mmmm, now that you mention it, I could really go for some pizza and garlic bread! We should get the guys to order some!” The kissing competition far from her mind at the prospect of food.

Fully prepared to attack to free herself, Phoebe quickly relaxed as she realized her escape opportunity. “Yes! We should! You go ask one of the guys to order it-- Or, tell them I’m ordering it upstairs since it’s quieter up there. And, I’ll be upstairs doing just that.”
