He took in a lungful of breath, enjoying the brisk, crisp scent of a bright spring afternoon as the two of them made their way down the pavement. Although the graceful arm that looped around his elbow surprised him, Remus took it in stride and continued down the street with her. The boy went from calm to flustered to sheepish all in the span of ten seconds at her words, and he managed to shoot her a half-hearted glare that looked awfully a lot like amused exasperation. “Good Godric, Valeria,” he said. “Anyway – books, yes, but some parchment and ink and quills, lunch, a jacket, three hundred receipts and scraps at the bottom, probably…”

At his glare he simply smiled innocently, raising her eyebrows as if to ask ‘what?’ as she let out a soft laugh. “I always thought ink and quills was horrible to carry inside backpacks, maybe that’s just me being clumsy enough to not have closed several ink pots well enough and having them spill all over,” She said with a sheepish smile. “I prefer pens, do you know what those are?”

When Valeria sat next to her, she drooped her head a bit and laughed, “I just am slightly concerned because the last time a large group of people was out, we nearly got blown to smithereens…remember?”

“I guess that’s a good reason,” She said with a laugh. “It wasn’t all bad though, I did meet a very attractive man that day,” She said as if that made the whole attack worth it.

“So I’ve heard, I’m sorry about the whole... Deatheater thing,” She said with an apologetic smile. “It’s been a while, right? Since the attacks began here?”

“Huh,” She said before she snorted out a laugh, “Slow? I didn’t know you did slow,” She said with a smirk as  she asked about her. “I’m... alright... I met an interesting man, well a few actually, this place is proving very very nice.”

“Hitting on a woman in the middle of battle...” She said as she tilted her head, “Very attractive,” She said as she looked at him as he fired the spell, at the Deatheater, soon after blocking another spell coming her way and sending a jinx back to send the man flying a few feet. “So... I’m guessing you’re an Auror then?”

“Yes, well, you definitely chose an interesting time to pay a visit to London.” Alastor shook his head, “I would say it’s not normally like this, but even when it isn’t this bad, there is always some trouble going on.” Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a curse flying their way and he instinctively pulled her close to him as he shot a protective shield around them.

“Yeah tell me about i-” She began before she was pulled up against him and a spell flew past her. “Usually I let a guy take me out on a date first, you know,” She joked as she was now pressed up against him, looking up at him, “Thanks.”

As Lucinda listened to her, she realized she probably could have paid a lot more attention during Magical Creatures class. She had only taken a few years of it, knowing she wasn’t going to be using it later in life in her career path, but it did seem rather interesting. “So, I’m assuming your job has something to do with creatures?” She pondered how fascinating of a life that would be. “Where are you from?”

“Yeah, I usually go after poachers, but I’m just sort of... settling a bit, seeing how this... place is, have some people to meet,” She said with a small nod, “America, New York City, though I don’t have the usual accent,” She said scrunching her nose, “I hope not anyways, I’d hate to sound like the Godfather.”

“I work with Magical Creatures, usually preventing their poaching, but I thought I’d come here to study thestrals and so on, just for a bit,” She said with a small shrug, “You’re an Auror I assume, since that’s where we are, right?”

“Ah I see,” She said with a nod. “Naw, I’m from America, though I’m staying here for a bit, though I’m putting everything in boxes right now since I’m renting a small flat nearby, more privacy, seems like I’m staying for a bit longer than I thought.”

As Remus watched Valeria disappear around the corner, he stared, gobsmacked. “What the hell,” he whispered, once she was safely out of earshot. The boy paused, before smacking his forehead against the thick book in his hands. “What the hell?” Good Godric, did he just – did she just?! He gawked, running a nervous hand through his hair as he made his way over towards the check-out station. Surely it was just an expression, she didn’t really mean it. And of course, it was better to not be presumptuous over two friends visiting a shop… at least, that’s what Remus told himself as he pushed open the glass doors and stepped out into the afternoon sun. Act normal, and don’t be weird. 

“Right, I’ve got my book,” he said, pulling off his rucksack to tuck it inside. “Ready to go?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” She said as she put her arm through his and pulled him along with her. She looked over at him and then his rucksack, “So what do you carry in there? Only books and books?” She asked curiously, she’d always been that - curious. She couldn’t help it, she just wanted to know more about him, he seemed strangely secretive, and she wanted to know why. “Porn maybe?” She teased just to see him jump. “I’m kidding, before you stumble on your words,” She said with a small laugh.
