AU - Rift
Ryoga flinched. That light… fuck no, he wasn’t scared. He just—hated the feeling of it, the fucking hand and the fucking light sliding into his body without any trouble. How the light could just wrap around his heart, the organ protected most by a ribcage that could withstand so much, and then plucking his soul away. At first a ghostly shiver, then the pain and pulling of open surgery without anaesthesia.
It was just the fatigue leading to the display of weakness. It had to have been.
“I don’t— I don’t have to tell you anything,” said Ryoga, attempting to keep his pride(—he had nothing left but his pride—) yet fully aware the stammer was still there. One of his feet slipped slightly beneath him, and he suppressed a cringe. “Just… leave me alone!”
Kaito's voice was normally relaxed and smooth, like the glass exterior of a building. But now, his eyes narrowed and fingers twitching, he changed. "I will leave you alone once you tell me! Tell me what you know of the Numbers, and why I've been sent here! Tell me what you saw back there!"
With those words, Kaito carved a bold step across the concrete, reaching to push his glowing hand onto Ryoga's chest. He attempted to wrap his other arm around the Shark, leaving him at the mercy of the hungry device.
