  Strawberry, huh? There’s another thing Shinji never expected Kaworu to be interested in. Watching as Kaworu stepped aside Shinji nodded to him lightly. He approached the frozen snacks, plucking a melon from its place among the others. He turned back to Kaworu.

"I’m ready to go. W-whenever you are, that is."

[pianohomo]

"Alright, then~" Kaworu stepped up to the counter and dropped the money infront of the clerk working at the store. He waited patiently as the ice cream was rung up and the change counted out, glancing over at Shinji with quite a pleased expression.

He really was a kid in a candy store, wasn’t he? It must’ve been true, he’s never had ice cream. There was some sort of sparkle is Kaworu’s eyes that was hard to not notice. Shinji let out a small ‘tch’ and averted his eyes to the aray of frozen foods.

"Melon is pretty good."

[pianohomo]

"Mmm, then you will get a melon and I will get..." Kaworu paused, scanning the different flavors. He reached in and pulled one out, finally, "This one. Strawberry." He smiled, dipping into his pocket to pull out some money. He stepped aside to let Shinji pick out his own flavor.

"Y-yeah—!" He…jumped? No, he cringed at the sudden feeling of something around his wrist. His eyes averted to see Kaworu’s hand firmly gripping his skin. The urge to pull away made it’s way to Shinji mind, but he managed to control himself and indulge the other boy.

"They’ve…got all sorts of flavors."

Entering the convenience store, Kaworu looked around for where the ice cream was. There. There it was in the back. He kept tugging on him, leading him to the frozen goods and staring at them all. There were definitely a lot of flavors, and a lot of choices he could make.  "What one does Shinji-kun like the most?"

Shinji could just tell Kaworu must’ve been plotting something, as innocent as he looked. And when the boy popped that question Shinji almost sighed, wanting to refuse. But with the reminder of the trip taking little to no time at all, Shinji gave it some serious thought.

"I guess we can stop off at the convenience store for just a minute."

[pianohomo]

"Then let's go, Shinji-kun~!" he chirped, grabbing his wrist to almost drag him to the convenience store. What a wonderful walk home this was turning out to be! And Shinji was being so friendly today. "What flavors do they have?"

[pianohomo]

"Y-yeah, It’s okay, I guess."

Again, he tried to keep his distance from Kaworu, taking a small step away when the silverette leaned in. Was he serious? He’s never had ice cream? It was something at least everyone has had at one point in life.

[pianohomo]

He placed a fist in his other hand as if concluding something, looking rather determined. Shinji liked ice cream, did he? Well, this was the perfect opportunity for the both of them. 

"Would you like to go with me to get some? I'm sure it wouldn't take too long, and you would be back on your way home in no time." Kaworu tried to make it sound as appealing as possible.

"It would be my treat."

Shinji kept himself from cringing as he caught footsteps coming up behind him, knowing just who it was. Suddenly he was regretting letting himself walk home with this strange boy. His eyes shifted to look at Kaworu, listening to his peak and watching his gesture. Did he mean the ice cream?

"Yeah. It’s called ice cream. Don’t tell me you’ve never had it before?"

[pianohomo]

"I haven't! Is it any good?" He leaned in closer as he asked, quirking a brow. Perhaps, if he recommended it, he would go try it. The food of the Lilin was always interesting, to say the least.

Following behind the silverette proved to be nothing special. It was quiet. There wasn’t anything to be said, apparently. The only notable occurence was the appearance of Asuka, who apparently struck Kaworu’s interests as he seemed to focus on her. Shinji looked over at his so-called “friend”, making eye contact, and taking note of her scoff.

Wanting to keep his pace Shinji continued forward, ahead of Kaworu, mind set on the goal. Home.

Kaworu kept watching Asuka for a few more moments, bobbing his head in polite greeting, before trotting to catch up with Shinji and taking his place by his side.

"Did you see that, Shinji-kun? What she was eating?" he asked, gesturing over his shoulder vaguely.

"Y-yeah…Whatever you say."

God he really was a creep. Was he trying to flirt? Or was he just this happy all the time? Shinji didn’t understand him at all. Nonetheless, he would take up Kaworu’s offer to walk home with him. He hesitated, nodded to Kaworu, before slowly following behind, keeping distance.

"Sure."

Kaworu tucked his hands into his pockets, humming softly as he walked along and occasionally glancing back to see Shinji walking behind him. It was quite nice that he had agreed to walk with him. Seeing him opening up, being more willing to spend time with others...It was what he could call a good feeling. Walking out of the school and down the sidewalk, the sun was beaming down pleasantly from a blue sky. This could be such a beautiful world. Then he saw her. A girl passing by, eating something foreign. He watched her go by, eyes curious.

"I…wasn’t planning on going anywhere but home."

What was with that stupid smile on his face? And these stupid questions? Was he getting a kick out of interogating Shinji?  Shinji could only be grateful there wasn’t another step taken closer to him. He would probably go crazy if that were the case. As for that stupid look on his face…

"Why are you smiling?"

[pianohomo]

"Is it so strange to smile? It is a nice day outside, and I am walking home with you. That is a good enough reason to smile, I think." He shouldered his bag properly and walked a few paces away from him, glancing back briefly. Kaworu didn't seem to really notice (or maybe even care) how bothered he seemed. "Shall we go, Shinji-kun?"

Shinji watched as the other boy stepped towards him, obviously disregarding any meaning of the term ‘personal space’. He made a small side step in an attempt to create some distance between Kaworu and himself. Why did he feel the need to be so close anyway? Shinji shook his head in response to the silverette’s question.

"No, not particularly."

[pianohomo]

Kaworu shrugged and didn't make a move to readjust himself any closer, simply letting him step away. Humans really were curious when it came to there personal space, particularly Shinji.

"Were you planning on heading anywhere today, or would it be alright if I were to accompany you home?" He continued to smile, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly.

As the final bell rang, signalling the end of the day, Shinji followed the rest of the class in the final stand and bow for the day. Stretching his arms out above his head he let out a deep sigh. Thank the heavens class was over.

He quickly packed his bag, making sure his notebooks and supplies were organized. Clipping it shut he watched for a moment as others chose one of two options: to stay and chat with their friends, or leave. Shinji himself thought it was best to leave, no dawdling. Making his way over and out the door a familiar shade of silver caught his eye and he turned, a quiet humming making its way into his ears.

"K…Kaworu-kun?"

[pianohomo]

"Ah, hello, Shinji-kun."  His greeting was friendly enough and he moved from his place on the wall, eyes opening and watching Shinji carefully. Kaworu stepped forward, taking a place directly in front of him and far beyond the border of his personal space. "Did you learn anything interesting today?" he inquired, though not sounding as interested as he could.

Kaworu lurked beside the classroom door, bag slung over one shoulder casually and the other resting against the wall. A soft smile spread across his lips, eyes closed as he waited patiently.  Shinji's class would be out in three minutes and he had planned on walking with him today. A normal habit the Lilin, he observed, particularly between those who were important to one another. So it would only make sense for him to walk with Shinji, right? So here he stood, humming quietly to himself and waiting for the boy to finish.
