itd be so fucking funny if his cutie mark was a sub becausae hes literally jimmy john thats crazy but he doesnt have a cutiemark because hes not a pony. he comes from a dimension where changlings caught onto the whole love thing like a whole lot sooner but guess what, wasnt enough because there was likea big enough group of hateful stinky bugs that were like, lets start a hate cult and summon a bunchof shadows guys to consume the world and then we can like eat god or something. so despite learning to consume love post pony apocalypse they literally bring another one but for themselves. luckily jim was like, not m e tho and left with his sister and no im not gonna headcanon her she is a mystery. basically, his changling design is based off the idea that the changlings we know were successful in like destroying their main energy/food supply and forced themselves to evolve. with time they got so fuzzy like real bug lovers know bugs lowkey stay hairy. depends on the bug. not every changling from jims world is bald, thats a him specific thing. maybe its age maybe its not

i actually had kind of a tough time with his coloring but then i remembered my made up rules and made his body the color of his yknow chosen shirt, similar to why i chose to make ash and travis their own respective purples. neils palette was even harder to decide with because he couldnt be dark yellow for like a multitude of reasons. if anyone has any thoughts about their colors dont be afraid to say so :3 these guys arent my bias so if anyones got a better grasp i will eat up any opinion on the matter
cant forget to mention todds earth poniness, i love the trope of earth ponies that get really into sciences, as its a sort of obtainable magic to those that dont have a horn.

Adorable larry pony, who isnt actually a pony. For this ill need to explain a bit of headcanon,, not sure how canon or non canon it is but jim, larrys dad being not an actual alien but rather a human from a alternate dimension that was over run by the shadows. So, in fim pony world, its the same way But, jim isnt a pony ! Hes somewhat of a changling, but not the classic type, rather something more specific to his og reality. When he finds himself in pony nockfell, he uses his abilities to disguise himself as, changlings are not really welcomed with open arms at this point in time. Amd he meets beautiful donkey lisa. Together they have what she would presume is a pegasus mule, and larry lives his life believing this as well. When in reality, hes pretty similar to jake the dog, iykyk. He would have the ability to change his appearance but has no idea up until death. Its actually exceptional that he has a cutiemark, sort of an outlier to the rule that no one gets them but ponies. I think ill explain this by saying yknow, jim isnt bar for bar a changling, hes probably an evolutionary feat, pony changling hybrid. Which also could explain his ability to stay in pony form for so long (also because being with lisa gave him all the love he'd need to supply is power).
Now, sal lore is probably obvious but ill still explain. His horn got blasted off by you know who, same way he gets dunked on canonically. I didnt think tooooo hard on his cutiemark, same with larrys. In theory sal could have many things as a cutiemark but ghost hunting felt a bit more special and specific. Especially since he got almost murdered so young, he didnt really have the chance to actually focus on that sort of thing. But ghost hunting has everything he loves, including the mystery solving aspect.

her cutie mark was hard to decide on so she got an abstract representation, Similar to many a unicorn cutie mark. i figured as a pony that her special talent/interest would be in relation to her overall creativity. so just like other unicorns, her magical abilities correspond to her creativity and not much else. just regular shmegular pretty pony with Cooool green magic

i guess i could also mention, this pony version of sally face does exist in a pony version of nockfell. so like, they are definitely in their own little story like rainbow dash isnt gonna pull up. but, this pony nockfell, more like nockfilly because thats sounds just dumb enough to be from the show /pos. it isnt necessarily copy and pasted, like, its got the classic pony influence but do not worry, all of the cult stuff and murder still definitely happen, this is a gruesome pony town. it dingy and a bit gray, given all of the, evil being done , dark bad magic like fuckin uuuuh sombra, i Hope You Know. okay thats it

i actually yapped alot, about who knows what, like im not sure if i answered the why part i just kind of talked. long story short, salarvis. thank you for asking :3
out of the three i do prefer the messy poly situation over either by themselves. for one, i think if these mfs really did all like guys and guy alike then thered have to be a mixed mess happening. a lot of, boys being in the closet, battles of masculinity and such. we're given like, barely any examples a of larrys battle with masculinity but its there for those with eyes to see. he has the normal amount of boys arent allowed to cry or love deeply. larry would be confined to his closet since he can "just choose" to like girls (bisexual life hack) and being closed off like that doesnt really produce a healthy relationship. he and sal would have something complicated, although lax. like, theyre somewhat fine just being incredibly, deeply, close friends. and when/if travis and sal formed a more romantic bond, larry would inevitably be apart of it. given the possibly confusing nature of the salarry, sal wouldnt stop himself for looking for other lovers, ones that might be more open to admitting they love him. and sheee at a certain point thats what travis does, even though salvis would be in so much more secret with genuine consequences for travis, the guy can express a love to sal that larry struggles to. and here comes the truly messy part, larvis. larry has got a huge thing Against travis, for good reason ! bro is a bully (and maybe theres some childhood larvis lore to be had if youre cool like that). but yknow what, when given the chance they can form a bond as well. something special and separate, something new for the both of them. they have a lot in common yknow, they hate each other and themselves and dont want anyone to know they like like boys. now, these three will get up to things surely, is it ever official ? no, is it consistent? no. its one of those situations where, instead of just, all being together, they instead pass each other around to whoever suits them best at that time. i could give it a timeline and i have, sal and larry have a short burst of salarry before travis comes into play post bologna incident, then its salvis heavy, larry mopes. post highschool though travis is waaay more distant, his life gets too complicated to keep sal close and sal knows what he deserves fr. this is when its a little more larvis heavy, since larry is in no rush to be romantically intertwined and travis appreciates that. they mourn theyre love in private like good straight men. like i said before theres overlap, and the gag is sal, the lover oat ends up alone. i think on paper this counts as salxlarryxtravis :3 ultimately they all die without ever figuring themselves out.
just remembered you asked why i like this as well, i think i like it because its ,complicated. its not a simple we are gay and in love, because everyones too busy trying not to be gay i guess. i have to mention, larry obviously has other issues going on, same as travis. things that hold them back from truly living their lives. because of this sals just sort of stuck getting what he can, since he himself struggles with insecurity and doesnt think he can get anything "better" for himself. maybe that my favorite part, no ones happy. i like the way it fits into the canon plot, keeps these so called relationships neatly wrapped up,. none of these individuals feel like people that would have anything but messy relationships and then they die, sal and larry dont really live all that long and then travis is like, in a pretty serious cult and then also dies like,, i fear they didnt really get the chance to have anything besides this weird polycule.
god now i have another thing to add, this headcanon is very ship specific, like, my true headcanons for these characters dont necessarily give allowance to certain things. these salarvis headcanons are specially formed with the more canon-ish headcanons in mind. this is like the second or third tier of headcanons.
