So I saw on tiktok that Palestinian journalist, Bisan Owda, has called for a boycott of Spider-Man: Brand New Day because its producer, Avi Arad, has publicly supported the genocide of the Palestinian people and has defended Netanyahu
I’m also seeing that there are posts about it on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, but I’m not seeing any posts about it on Tumblr? Am I not looking up the right keywords in the search bar or are we all out of the loop?
(I can’t find the original post from Owda because I have the worst time navigating Instagram, but this link is from The Jamia Times on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DblMMDKTyub/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== )
[Image ID: Picture of a quote from Bisan Owda that reads: “Waiting for Zendaya and Tom Holland to say something about this maybe? We cannot separate art from accountability. Every ticket sold supports a production led by a producer who has publicly defended Israel’s war on Gaza. Boycott is one of the few peaceful tools we have to demand justice.” /End ID]

but ykw at least i'm not on mount everest. at least i'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars to slowly suffocate in a 300-person line at the gates of hell. never in my life will i have to be steered in a hypoxic stupor through the maze of poop and corpses atop mount everest. on this earth a lot of horrible things can happen to you without your permission but there are a few that you have to opt into. you can just say no thanks! and be guaranteed never to have to be on mount everest. much to be grateful for actually
still not on mount everest this morning 😌 alhamdulillah
Barker then turned his attention to his fellow author J.K. Rowling, who has had her fair share of controversy over the last few years over her opinions on the transgender community. “There’s a lot of pain amongst the transgender people that I know,” Barker stated. “They have a lot of issues in the world as it is, without a famous author opining on the subject. It just seems redundant. It just seems unkind.”
Noting Rowling’s vast financial success, Barker felt that Rowling’s newfound position of fame ought to exclude her from discussing trans rights. He added, “It really just seems redundant for a woman as successful, as validated in the world, as Ms Rowling, to be negative, to be disruptive if you will, to a very beaten up subculture. These are human beings. She has no right to opine, I think, upon the lives of human beings that she does not know.”
“I feel very protective of people who are on the edge of our culture as gay people still are,” Barker continued. “And certainly transgender people are on the edge of our culture. And here you have one of the most successful people in the frigging world – Ms Rowling. Going after a very emotionally vulnerable portion of our culture. It just seems unnecessary and unfair.”
Prejudice.
no offense but you guys need to learn the difference between someone implying their experience is universal and a post simply just not being about you
That's DOPE
potentially controversial but i don't think "male sexuality is inherently predatory (and so if you don't want to be predatory, you're probably a girl)" is a winning feminist take. i actually think it's exactly the opposite and we should really be avoiding the implication that predatory misogynistic behavior is biological and not social in nature
this is just “boys will be boys” used to defend misogynistic behavior under the assumption it’s biological and not a choice resulting from misogyny never being socially punished, but with a coat of paint on it to sound woke
socialized behavior argument aside i just also do not think this is true beyond shitheads who are obviously not representative of the general population. some boys just had good parents idk what to tell you
this is one of those things where it’s like, “damn that sucked and shouldn’t have happened to you but it does seem like you’re turning your bad experience into political beliefs and you can’t be doing that”
