Birds of Wisdom
Everyone in college, going to college, or wants to go to college someday: I'm a graduating senior, and I have one favor to ask of you.
Go to more talks.
In your field, far out of your field go to as many talks as you can.
Sometimes you’ll have good excuses. I know I did. I’m not going to skip classes that I’m paying for, and I can’t miss lab meeting because something cool popped up Thursday at 4. I know you can’t either - I get that.
Sometimes I had /okay/ excuses. I have to study for orgo one more hour. I want to relax tomorrow, so I’ll do more work tonight. It happens.
Sometimes I had garbage excuses. I’m tired. The Bachelor is on. I’m playing on my phone, so time slipped away from me, and now I’m actually going to do work.
PLEASE go to talks. Learn from people doing what you want to do. Learn from people who have a career you didn’t know existed. Learn from physicists, sociologists, activists, grad students, Nobel laureates, your peers.
I’ve never regretted going to a talk. I had no clue what was going on sometimes, sure. But not ONCE have i left the room thinking “What a waste of time.” You know what is a waste of time? Playing on your phone til time slips away.
This is my biggest regret as I approach graduation. So here’s my request of you: please go to talks. For me. And when you realize it’s wonderful, engaging, challenging, and rewarding, please do it for you.
yes yes yes!! you get to meet so many people too! networking is key to helping you get to where you want to be and do what you’ve been dreaming of doing!

this is crazy good!!! i need to take this advice woah!
ARTERIES OF THE PELVIS
I hope the universe blesses you with a moment of peace this week. You’re doing the right thing, and you’re going to be okay.
I know it’s hard.
I know it seems impossible.
I know you have no idea how this is supposed to work out.
But it will - in the end, time will flow and you will be okay.
I have no doubt about your capability - with some discipline and hard work you can do anything you set your mind to.
Effort makes you. You will regret someday if you don’t do your best now. Don’t think it’s too late but keep working on it. It may take time, but there’s nothing that gets worse due to practising. So practise. You may get depressed, but its evidence that you are doing good.

tips for motivation i’ve learned/cultivated
say your game plan aloud
have a to-do list, but don’t cross off your accomplishments
if you’re feeling down about grades, look at your previous successes
completely kill any distractions
create an atmosphere for learning - this can include having studyspo tabs open, watching studytubers, etc.
put on music that motivates, yet calms you - I recommend (not too chill) classical, instrumentals, trip hop, soft electronic, etc. - ambient generators work wonders too
remind yourself of your end goals– think of your desired uni/s, the grades you’re striving for, the progress you’ve already made
make sure your goals are realistic
declutter your workspace
have water nearby, as well as possibly other drinks and snacks
open curtains to let in natural light
think of anything that motivates you! friends, fictional characters, spite, whatever
take breaks when you need them + forgive yourself for doing so
omg i’ve never realised i actually use some of them and they really work
sending “I hope you get that job” vibes to the people out here tryna get jobs

Don’t get mad. Don’t get even. Get stronger, faster, and more powerful. Fill yourself with knowledge and empathy and an indomitable spirit because no one else can do that for you. In the end, it’s your life, your choice, and your world. Give 110%, always.

A Few Helpful Videos
Step 1 and Done.
I don’t understand how some people can straight read First Aid and retain. Here are a few videos I found to be very helpful for understanding and memorizing concepts. With the plethora of YouTube videos out there, I feel like there should be a database of worthwhile ones somewhere (please tell me if there is already). Feel free to add any you’ve found particularly helpful.

General Anatomy Overview Channel
Anatomy Figure Drawings - Helps visualize muscle actions
Biostats
Watch these a couple of days before your exam for a refresher. Many of his review questions are based directly off of UWorld questions.
Practice Questions

Antiarrhythmics - follow up with SketchyPharm
Antiarrhythmics - Refractory Period Explained
Embryology
This cardio video is amazing. He explains the cardio congenital defects in context of what causes each defect during development. This makes recall much easier as you’re learning the process and can work out each one even if you forget the small details. (make sure to watch both parts)
Heart Embryo Derivatives - mnemonic
