Dealing with a jam
Matt looked up just as he was setting papers onto the desk furthest from the door, brown eyes landing on the larger bearded man as he came in with this welcoming attitude the gamer would never understand. It was how he always knew Jack though since they met and it marveled him to this day that man was a criminal. He just seemed so…well, nice. And even now he was here for Matt to help with a gun, but yet here he was acting as if it was just another car problem for Dooley Auto to fix.
“No,” he gave a shake of his head, “Was just cleaning up a few things that got scattered about last night.” He nodded towards the case, eyes remaining on Jack, “I can look at that right now, Jack. It shouldn’t take too long.” He offered him a smile then pulled one of the wheeled chairs over so he could sit at the desk, arm resting on the top of it. He patted the wooden area, “Let me have a look.”
It’s just how Jack is. Naturally cheery and friendly, unless he’s on a job or you’ve pissed him off. Neither of which Matt has experienced- and with any luck, never will. Besides, you tend to discover that being pleasant to deal with generally gets you further than being imposing and abrasive. Sure, it works for some, but Jack prefers to work this way. People underestimate him, and they pay for it later. But that’s neither here nor there. He needs his pistol fixed. It’s been by his side since the beginning.
“Good, good”, he says, relieved, “It’s fine, do what you have to, and let me know if I can help”. Jack opens up the case, and lets out a breath. “This thing has bested me. Tried every trick I know, and yet it won’t budge”. He comes around to half perch on the desk- he’s being careful about it, too. “Be my guest, Matt”.
