We’re Gonna Get Ourselves Murdered
It wasn't so much lying as it was embellishing the truth. Chris was a novice at best, but starting to play around with his limited hacking abilities, it had led to some light bragging that he was hacking computers now. Which he was, sort of.
His success was keylogging software and his talents were solely banging his fingers against the keyboard and hoping one of these random combinations would be the password. The latter had a high failure rate, minus the one time Chris had gained access to a website belonging to a school, who had decided that why think up a creative password, when you could just have it as the name of the school itself? Genius.
What Chris hadn't expected, was for his boasting to come back and bite him on the ass. A couple of texts from Adam whilst in the middle of a few jobs, a couple of responses whilst taking a break on the sidewalk, and Chris had roped himself into heading over to Adam's shop to hack into a computer.
Frankly, Chris knew he should have stopped there and then. Told the truth, which was he wasn't so much a hacker as he was a wannabe. But when he had somebody texting him, wanting him to do them a favour, it felt real good for somebody to want you to do something for them. So, Chris had momentarily hesitated, and then tapped in the reply that he'd be over when he was done with his rounds. Who knew? Maybe he'd get lucky with random combinations. Sometimes, Chris was too optimistic for his own good.
"Yoooo," called out Chris, pushing open the door to the store and stepping in. "Hired hacker help is here, ready to serve!" A salute was followed up by Chris' eyes darting around the room. "So, where's this computer?"
