have u guys noticed the phenomenon that's like

- m/f ship between a nonblack man & a Black woman

- it's either canon (e.g. mel/jayce arcane, arthur/guinevere bbcmerlin) or entirely plausible (e.g. prism or coupé/robert dispatch)

- fanbase overwhelmingly pairs nb man off with another nb man and disengages from the Black woman character, shunting her into a background wise & sassy caretaker role (for which there is a name) or leaving her out of fanworks entirely

- fans who do this ^ claim it is an expression of love and admiration for the Black woman character, actually, bc the nb man (who may be her canonical partner) "can't handle all that" (he may be perfectly competent and engaged; she may be totally low maintenance; it has no bearing), she's just too wonderful (too much) and out of his league (lacking in flaws and interiority and fan appeal)

have we all observed this and can we see the multiple dimensions in which it is racist ☝️ i'm not bringing it up to make any beautiful fujos feel bad abt shipping this or that, just to ask for some consideration of what ppl are saying abt Black women when they make their excuses to each other. like you can just not make the excuses. yk?

Like all of Moonlight is just SO GOOD but the fact that Chiron allowed Kevin in like that, the ONLY ONE he ever allowed to touch him sexually, vulnerably, to basically say that despite this hard exterior I've had to put up to protect myself from this cruel world, I let YOU in and you're the ONLY ONE....

I'm sorry- Actually I'm not sorry- for being crazy about Moonlight. It just eats me alive inside that it managed to do all those things and make history and be a fucking BRILLIANT film, and people just... Overlook it. Won Best Picture and people treat it like it's indie.

It's one that everyone here who asks me questions could be assed to watch, because it is a PERFECT example of nuanced writing of Black characters. It is genuinely that good. You know how sometimes we go crazy over shit that's mid, but we do it because that's our taste? No, Moonlight is actually THAT GOOD. I am willing to stake my honor on it that it is excellent.

"How do I write a character that has a bad home life-" Chiron.

"But what if he's getting bullied-" Chiron.

"How do I write a Black boy that struggles with-" CHIRON!!!!!! It's Chiron, it's Chiron you wanna study!!

The only way you wouldn't find that movie perfect is if you genuinely cannot empathize with a Black person on screen, I am firm on that. Because if you open your Eyes and Watch it, it's that good. Like trust me, I didn't believe it at first either, and then I watched it and was converted.
