"I’ve heard that the Vongola has two master swordsmen. He must be one."
▶ graceless.
Obscurity dubs itself the word of the early evening, though Yamamoto has - been trying, prowling pace deft but languid - to shake it off (to redefine the hours) since the sun's light first began to stutter.
He's said it before, and he'll say it again: a worthy batter, a talented player, relies on their eyes as a matter of fact, focusing on environmental machinations and piecing them apart, like silk under an imperious tailor's inspection. Maybe there's an eloquent word for the ability, but Yamamoto knows it just as a feeling, easy to dredge up from the bottom of his heart and let bloom, a sensation that stops things (fists, baseballs) midair and takes their arcs apart. That lets him see the swing of a sword in the whiteness of a knuckle, tendons straining with killing power, and freeze it exactly where it will stop a second's fraction later, bowed by the curve of his own blade. And Yamamoto would never confess as much - but he feels vaguely uneasy about his ability to see like that now, even if he's left Kintoki at home - replaced it with a harmless candy apple.
A tautness jolts his bones even as the castle (lit to resemble one massive jack-o'-lantern) rises above, dazzling. The boy's glance up reveals clouds playing shadow puppets with the warp of buildings. There's a muted rumble of quicksilver, of burnished copper shiver, across brick and ivory beam that in itself seems a little twisted. Darkness shores up against the feet of passerby - and, if it can, if they happen to stray from the comforting beam of watchful path lights, swallows them almost whole from sight with ease.
Under Yamamoto’s rumpled costume collar a muscle twitches and skitters, before he blinks, turns - is released, a hand rubbing his neck unconsciously as he wonders: was that someone turning the corner or another trick of the light? Had there been a mouth attached to that brief, murmuring chuckle, or to the bark of (he doesn't know that he'd call it) fear he hears, passing the last few food stalls?
Yamamoto releases a soft laugh of his own, a breathy exorcism. Sure, the dungeons are quite close, but lots of things are said to be haunted that simply: aren't.
"Must have been my imagination - "
- but the shoulder he jostles ("Ah!!") definitely isn't.
And the apple, barely three bites in, now caramelized to another person's front? Well, that throws up Yamamoto's hands immediately, the same old gesture he's always used to deflect conflict, coupled with an equally defusing, if contrite, amiable huff. Okay, I know how this looks, says his posture, chin tipped to meet the other's eyes.
"I, uh, haha," a great start to an apology - "I'm really sorry, wow!"
archiduxs
▶ heavenfaced.
The festivities, and spending them with people far different from those he's become accustomed to, are: welcome distraction; severe brightness in a sea of unknown; a comforting return to roots while remaining adrift.
Yamamoto cares almost too deeply for those he's left behind - but it's a relief, somehow, in a bittersweet, brightening way, to have fallen in with another who feels the same about what she's left behind - and is, like Takeshi himself, somehow still surviving the divestment of it. Without really knowing what's going on in their homeworlds, that's all they can do: hope someday they'll be able to exclaim, 'Wow!'
Or in Rinoa's case, because it seems like something she'd let slip, instead of the gaping teenage wordlessness Yamamoto's more exemplary of: 'I'm so happy to be back!'
'What the heck happened while I was gone?'
For now, though, they are where they are, and they might as well make the best of it. Enjoy themselves a little, since it is an amusement park.
The Rain Guardian's costume for the day is a little tongue-in-cheek, what with its nostalgia and simultaneous simplicity. Lingering in the crook of the hallway, where the arc of many doors ended and gave way to the elevator waiting spaces, Yamamoto's fingers tuck into the arch black of pants which emphasize gangliness rather more than elegance. At the least, the suit sits well on his shoulders, even if his tie is mediocre in its knotting and garish baseball pattern - unworthy of a real mafia member, probably, but that's what he means to go as.
Turning at the tap of footsteps, Yamamoto raises a brow and breaks into a smile.
"Yo!" he calls, raising one hand. "Are you ready to go, Rin?"

hey y'all! ٩(●˙▿˙●)۶ tons of wonderful new chars have joined recently (here's lookin at you ;d) and a HELLA halloween event just went up, so i figured - like this and i'll write us up an event starter!
山本 武 - Guardian of Rain
Lost Bike || Open [Kino + Yamamoto]
motorcyclehearts
Kino woke up in front of the amusement park gates with no memory of how she came to these gates in the first place. She knew she wouldn’t set up camp here since there was likely a hotel nearby. Also, there wasn’t a tent or a campfire or anything to indicate that she’d picked this spot for camping.
There was only one logical explanation for this: she was attacked and rendered unconscious in front of the park gates.
Frantically, she looked around for signs of a struggle and her motorcycle (and trusted travel partner), Hermes. Hermes was nowhere in sight, and there was no blood, and she didn’t ache, and there were no discarded weapons on the ground, either. Speaking of weapons, she quickly patted herself down to check for her multitude of knives and guns. Much to her dismay, she only had the Cannon now. She assumed her attacker ran off with her other weapons… and possibly with Hermes as well.
But something didn’t add up. If she had been attacked and knocked unconscious, she would hurt, right? And she didn’t. Hermes had always gotten on her about eating right, and he expressed concern when she skipped meals. Perhaps she fainted from hunger because she didn’t listen to him? But how would that explain her memory loss and her missing items?
She decided her best bet would be to ask one of the park workers, probably the ones at the entrance kiosk, if they had seen what happened and knew what became of her missing things. However, when she entered the park, the gates slammed shut behind her, and before she could say anything to the person running the kiosk, a map was shoved into her hands. It had “Room #406” written at the top, along with the name of the hotel. Like they had been expecting her.
Maybe, if they were expecting her, some of her things were already in the park? She asked about Hermes and if he was in her room, but the person looked at her with a vacant expression. After a couple more questions, she quickly determined that she would get nowhere with this kiosk worker and decided to take her questions elsewhere.
She ventured a little ways into the park, but not far from the entrance, she came across a person who seemed to be having a pleasant enough time. She hated to bother this stranger, but her current situation was kind of urgent. She waved them down and started with, “Hey. Excuse me, but… do you know where they would keep motorcycles and other vehicles like that? Mine seems to be missing.” She was unable to keep concern out of her brown eyes and urgency out her voice, but it was understandable, at least! Anyone would be scared if one of their friends went missing. ”I really need to know right now. He’s extremely important to me.”
Right now, finding Hermes was the priority. Maybe if she solved that problem, the other problems would solve themselves. Unlikely, but it was worth a try.
An old world's hold on you, relinquished: the feeling of arriving at the park, released from sudden blackness while one's own familiar burdens are unwillingly divested. Yamamoto knows the sensation well - quite a few others he's talked to have affirmed it with chilling intimacy - and, if he were as eloquent as some such companions, he might call it something of an alien shiver that radiated from one's core out, thundering through lungs and heart with spasmic heels. As it is, he knows it as a lurch! of the gut and the flash! of instinctive fire, wordless but visceral; he recalls a glimmering chain disappearing (Flame sputtering) from round his neck, far less notable than a vehicle but - just as significant, as treasured, as symbolic of everything he has had the wild fortune to encounter and overcome.
It's due to that particular disappearance (of the physical manifestation of his heart, his conviction) that Yamamoto had, for a time, wondered whether he'd ever really woken up from that hospital bed, weeks ago, haze of oxygen tinting flickering vision. However, his senses have confirmed time and again: he is alive. He is also not dreaming. Therefore, there will be time yet to sort out: exactly what had happened, how, and why it had resulted in his arrival in this eerie not-Japan.
He moves even now with the reassurance this instinctive faith offers.
Despite the absence of a proper baseball team or 'mafia family' to train alongside, he's found regular rounds about the park both fairly informative and anxiety-absolving. Paired austere front gates are but one stop along the way, atmosphere overhead benevolent and mild.
Around here, park staff throng as thickly as confused patrons, ever-enthusiastic but entirely unhelpful when it comes to real answers. He sidesteps most, vision flitting from face to face casually. He's learned the hard way that being pulled into their machinations can be - unpleasant. At the same time, he finds it in himself to stop and take a look around. On one shoulder Kintoki's length weighs heavy (for something that seems mere bamboo): a final step forward, a hum of thought, and it becomes clear that Yamamoto's accepted its heft long ago, modifying even strides to account for its sway with natural grace.
Yamamoto also possesses a wry way of letting his mouth close only loosely, suggesting a bright word or breathy chuckle just beyond the rim of his pale pink lip. At Kino's wave, those very two things tumble out - accompanied by a quirk of one brow, a straightening of his lean spine as he steers closer to his sudden companion.
"Ah, sorry! You said - a motorcycle?"
Truthfully, he's most accustomed to multitudes on foot. It is an amusement park they're trapped in - but it's a captivity he suspects, studying the murky disquiet of Kino's focused gaze, is quite new to the person before him. (True, it doesn't really suit him entirely either.) His voice softens; the request's urgency draws his chin up, eyes cast about even as one set of fingers grapples for a map in a deep pocket.
"I'm sure he's okay," comes accompanied with a hand extended in comforting calm. "Did you get a map yet? Have you taken a look at that, um...?"
Midway through unfurling his own map, Yamamoto pauses. Fixes the other with the telltale, quirked gaze of someone searching for a name.
♋ !
♋ what type of music helps you gain the most muse for this character and others?
answered here! in addition, i'd probably say songs along the vibe of this mix. softly ardent stuff that i can put on in the background, with special attention to lyrics that speak of family, loyalty, all that good stuff i've already made pretty clear i really like. i don't normally put anything on too loud when i write - i don't want the words to distract from what i'm actually putting down!
「♎, ♋, ♍ 」
♎ someone you want to roleplay but haven’t gotten the chance to yet?
answered here! i think there are a lot of characters i'd like to try my hand at, too many to name or honestly pay full attention to even if i did pick them up, but right now i think it'd be really fun to play older yamamoto, as he was glimpsed in the tyl arc (tragic!!!! but also: do we even know if he realizes he's in the mafia still) or as he might be just ten years down the line after all that's happened.
♋ what type of music helps you gain the most muse for this character and others?
i really enjoy instrumental playlists! playlists with fluid sounds and rising and falling energy, some stuff a bit in the line of yamamoto's autoplay. i also have a few vongola playlists i'm fond of (one, two, three). lastly i do like to watch the anime intermittently to get in the mood, so to speak.
♍ what brought you to pp?
it was advertised on my tl, and i've rped with and very much love and respect several of its mods. at the time, i was feeling pretty restless since i wasn't involved in any other groups, but pp has satisfied me marvelously. although it's not always easy finding time for it, since i'm a fulltime student, i definitely feel comfortable and excited by everyone here, and i hope i can help others feel the same.
♌ and ♉
♌ who has been your favorite muse?
answered here! besides takeshi and lenalee, i’d probably also mention meredith elkwood of todd allison and the petunia violet. through his history and character, i’ve been able to explore some qualities of myself, as well as questions regarding to hate and discrimination. i feel terribly blessed by both the canon and crossover bonds i’ve had playing meredith.
♉ what’s your favorite series (from any media form)?
aaahh you got two already answered (this one here)! i guess i’d also throw in final fantasy xii. i love and have been attached to almost every character since i was very young, so perhaps i see it in a bit of a glassy light - i’ve been told some others felt it was too dry or political, but i enjoyed that facet. i liked to see how it clashed with the way people just tried to live their lives, but were unable to, and struggled to find freedom or exoneration in different ways. it was also one of my first video games on a non-handheld console.
♒, ♏, and ♓!
♒ who are your top three favorite characters (whether you muse them or not)?
i do tend to muse my favorites, but it’s very hard to pick a top three - i’m really unused to anything beyond a vague hierarchy of passion. yamamoto takeshi obviously gives me a great deal of hope and opportunity for reflection, as someone who has always been very good at things and prided myself on those abilities, at times allowing those to overshadow much more important ideals of compassion and healthy positive relationships. his relationship with his father also reminds me a lot of my own understanding with my mother. for my second, i’d probably pick isana yashiro from k project, the passive immortal, transformed (bettered) by mortal strain, loyalty, and love. i consider his loss and regaining of faith in the human world and heart something many people, including myself, experience on some scale. lastly, i adore lenalee lee from d.gray-man, someone who expresses a great deal of weakness and unsurety. however, she further displays immense determination, a willingness to push herself over the brink to preserve something so fragile as the homes and lives of her loved ones in a time of 'holy' war.
♏ what are you looking forward to roleplaying here?
frick, i feel like i’ve already answered this partly in 'if you could roleplay any one thing!' i’m definitely looking forward to - developing bonds with friends outside of the vongola, as well as of course reuniting with those who were already a part of yamamoto’s canon famiglia. i want to play a more hard-pressed takeshi: this park absolutely has an underbelly, an element of not always clandestine danger, and i hope as that perhaps continues to escalate (in events, etc), i can show him challenged, protective, delirious, distressed. he’s a very new muse for me such that i feel (ryohei voice) extreme!-ly blessed to be able to develop him in this setting.
♓ tell us 1-3 random facts of your choice!
one: sometimes when i’m bored i flip through wikipedia reading horror plot summaries to make my skin crawl just enough that i’m thrilled or excited. two: i really love thinking about asexual/aromantic/queer/etc headcanons for characters because of my own identity. three: when i work lately i usually put the national’s discography on in backwards order of release, because i like how their music feels like it’s coming undone as it moves from their later, perhaps more polished style to the more raw, early work. it’s low-key enough to put on in the background, but i also know those aching lyrics well enough to keep up with each song.

♐ & ♑!
♐ what’s your favorite past time besides roleplaying?
HMM.. i’m on this dragon site called flight rising? ancelstierre, id #32514, if any of you guys play that. besides noodling around on there and here, i spend a lot of time studying and doing more critical writing, as well as some time devoted to poetry. i’ve also recently come to really enjoy long walks on the beach or in the woods, seeing as i essentially live next to both. aside from these, the pasttime i most consistently engage in is being really gay. especially about my friends. all the time??
♑ if you could roleplay one thing that you’ve always wanted to, what would it be?
answered here! but, in addition, because i’m wild and your fave is problematic i guess, i have a notable interest in fictional #cannibalism. i love ideas of devouring, becoming, and distress over one’s own humanity - the complicit involvement of another human being in your unraveling. i’d definitely put some characters who don’t deserve it through eating or being eaten, and take some time on the aftermath of those actions as well. i’m sorry, please take this ice cream machine as penance
♈♎♌
♈ how long have you been roleplaying?
answered here! i'm glad it was long enough to have met you ;d
♎ someone you want to roleplay but haven’t gotten the chance to yet?
AHA.. looks at all the aborted reserves i’ve submitted to the poor pp masterlist.. you guys are long suffering, thank you so much for everything you do! i’d really like to give yuni, also of khr, a try. she has an incredibly serene nature, but a much more minor role, yet she also displays a kind of earnest, yet political, yet well-meant (even compassionate) shrewdness. also very cute, all the time. I MIGHT BE DOOMED TO PLAY JUST KHRS FOR THE REST OF? I DON’T KNOW? ETERNITY POSSIBLY
♌ who has been your favorite muse?
it’s no secret i’m 100% feeling yamamoto, he’s very important to me and i’m looking forward to exploring him so much more in the future. i think he’s my favored right now, and i hope i can keep on feeling strong about him because i’m already very happy about the memories i’ve made on pp and will continue to build. i think prior to developing a muse to yamamoto - i’ve always felt really positive about lenalee lee of d.gray-man, even though i likewise never played her for an extended period of time.
♈, ♉, ♑ :3
♈ how long have you been roleplaying?
it must be ten or eleven years by now! i’m just about to turn twenty next month, and i started when i was around nine, ten - it’s been one of my primary mediums for writing ever since. having a community centered around improving and employing your own language was always a huge draw.
♉ what’s your favorite series (from any media form)?
HONESTLY KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN! HAS SHOT REALLY, REALLY HIGH ON THIS LIST, but i also adore k project to the depths of my heart and soul, and if you let me talk about isana yashiro, awashima seri, or blue/silver clans i would find it incredibly difficult to stop. as webcomics go todd allison and the petunia violet also holds my heart for its atmosphere and engaging characters. i don’t have a particular one favorite, but i do find i tend towards series where there are elements of family (especially chosen families, families that fight, families of many different natures interacting or conflicting) and sacrifice. d.gray-man also has a precious place for me for this reason.
♑ if you could roleplay one thing that you’ve always wanted to, what would it be?
across all muses? i feel like i haven’t gotten as much practice in the past writing internal conflict, which is something that i really like to think about - how people who often have very strong loyalties, like the characters i often gravitate towards, act when they come under duress that forces them to question things like the hierarchy of their love, the lengths to which they’ll go for their allegiances. passionate gentility/ferocity is something that many of my recurring muses also have in common, from yamamoto to lenalee lee to meredith elkwood and onward. i’d really like to do more of that in the future, and especially harsh, heavy, action-y split-second dilemmas vs long-term quieter struggle!
