Teas for Witches: the Basics
I can talk about tea literally all day (and I have because Iâve worked in a spice and tea shop for years), and there is SO much to talk about with both health and magical benefits. Teas are made from tea leaves called camellia sinensis, with the exception of herbal teas/infusions. For this, Iâm going to list magical and health benefits by type of tea.
Black Tea
Feminine * Earth * Winter * Strength * Stability * Death * Expelling Negativity * Alertness * Energy
Black tea is the most fermented and oxidized of all teas. Its tea leaves look shriveled and black. It combats heart ailments, digestive problems, high cholesterol, asthma, and breast/menstrual problems. Black tea also has a lot of caffeine (47 mg, still less than coffee) and too much of it can cause acidity issues in the stomach. Â
Examples: English/Irish Breakfast Tea, Assam, Darjeeling, Lapsung Souchang, Ceylon, Earl Grey
**There is a subset of black tea called Pu-erh, a post-fermented black tea. Some consider this to be the âpurestâ of all teas and connect it to the aether, as it is rare and valuable.
Green Tea
Masculine * Fire * Summer * Passion * Healing * Conscious Mind * Sexual Health * Love * Energy * Progress * Magic
Green tea is slightly steamed but not fermented, which maintains its green color. It has many health benefits, such as detoxifying, reducing cholesterol and weight, boosting immunity and stamina, and reducing blood glucose. It has less caffeine than black, but still some.Â
Examples: Jasmine, Sencha, Matcha, Gyokurocha, Genmaicha, Hojicha, Gunpowder, Dragonwell
Oolong Tea
Feminine * Water * Autumn * Reflection * Meditation * Wisdom * Serenity * Concentration * Romance * Friendship
I always describe Oolong as being between Green and Blacks, since it is half fermented. It can help manage weight and stress, balance blog sugar levels, remove free radicals, and promote healthy skin and bones. HOWEVER, too much can actually speed up bone degradation because it sweeps away excess calcium. And beware of its high caffeine content (I used to drink Raspberry Wulong to pull all-nighters).
Examples: Milk Oolong, Formosa, Wulongs
White Tea
Masculine * Air * Spring * Happiness * Wisdom * Moon * Purification * Protection * Clarity * Cleansing * Beginnings
White tea is a little harder to find. Either the tea leaves are plucked as immature leaves and steamed, or the leaves have not been processed (there seems to be little consensus across cultures). Some have a small amount of caffeine. Itâs a great antibacterial and antioxidant, and it improves the heart, oral health, and skin. Drinking a couple cups works better than one, and you can reuse the tea leaves, granted that the second cup will brew longer.
Examples: White teas come in many flavors and are usually labeled as white tea. You may need to seek out a tea shop to find some.
Herbal Tea
Magical properties depend on which herbs are used
This tea seems to be the most popular for witches on tumblr, because it is composed of dry, unprocessed herbs, seeds, fruits, or roots, and has no caffeine (as long as the herb doesnât!). There are many recipes online as herbals are easy to make. In general, herbal tea promotes calm, reduces cholesterol and risk of heart conditions, cancers, and diabetes. Due to its lack of actual tea leaves it has less antioxidants than other teas. Some donât even call it a tea, but dub it Herbal Infusion.
Examples: Rooibos, most Chais, Ginseng, Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, Hibiscus
**Yerba Mate is an herbal tea that is notorious for its high caffeine levels (youâve probably seen the energy drink). It also zaps oneâs appetite and can become addictive, so be careful around this tea!
As always, feel free to add/message me of any corrections, and I hope you find your cup of tea!
listen i might be drunk but im right. art & literature & nature & music make life worth living. people who look like they were ripped out of a caravaggio painting make life worth living. go organize a bacchanal in the woods. take pics of your lover in your hotel room in venice. who cares if thereâs a void in your soul. who cares if you canât get attached to anyone. neither can michelangeloâs david.
Coin spell for wealth and protection đ°đ°đ°
This is my very first spell that Iâve made up so please donât be too harsh on me!!
All the stuff in this spell is pretty cheap and easy to find!
~~~~~~
What you need:
- some coins (I like gold $1 and $2 but you can use whatever you like)
- peppermint (money, protection)
- sage (cleansing, protection, money)
- small piece of citrine (happiness and abundance)
- small green bag or jar with green ribbon
What to do:
⢠first ground and centre yourself
⢠take your bag or jar and fill it with sage and peppermint
⢠add your coins on top
⢠add your citrine to the jar
⢠focus your energy into using the herbs and citrine to bring protection and wealth into the coins
⢠now when you pass on your coins, it will bring wealth and protection to those you give them to. Alternatively you could carry a few in your purse or pocket to attract the same to yourself
~~~~~
I used this spell on the coins I am planning on giving to some homeless people near me for Yule!
there are people who are rays of sunshine, cherry blossoms, vanilla candles and the colors of dusk.
there are people who are marble floors, roman temples, black ink and the smell of the earth after rain.
there are people who are star-gazing, holding your breath, little smiles, subtle touches and soft fabric.
who are you?

Fudge recipe on a headstone
I feel like I should make this just to be able to say a dead person taught me how to make it. Maybe Iâll do it for Halloween.
I desperately hope that she spent her entire life telling people that they could have her fudge recipe âover my dead body.â
That last comment is absolutely worth reblogging.
Yeah, Kayâs laughing.Â
âWhich chocolate? Milk chocolate? non-sweetened?â âButter? salted or unsalted?â âMilk? Whole milk or 1%?â
DAMN YOU AND YOUR NON SPECIFICITY!!!
Itâs fudge, you default to the fattiest ingredients. And donât use anything sweeter than semisweet chocolate in a recipe that calls for that much sugar.

Offer this to the dead
Some Uncommon Tools in Death Witchcraft
I feel like some materials that are commonly used in other paths are often overlooked by death witches. For example:
Bloodstone is not often mentioned, but has incredible potential for death work. It represents blood flow in the human body, and therefore can be used in spells in the same vein as actual blood is used. I mainly use it to connect to ancestors, but you may also use it for grounding, protection, and energy work.
Cascarillla (ground eggshells) have potential in the craft; they represent death of a conceived chick, and the protection of new life. It can be used in place of salt if youâre scattering it around plants, as it wonât harm the surrounding nature. You can even make a black salt out of it by grinding it with ash or charcoal, or dying the egg before the grinding it.
Banana bread can technically be a good offering, since it uses brown bananas oftentimes. Bread is also a common offering for the dead.
Many witches recommend harvesting plants when theyâre still alive. For death witchcraft, there may be more power in harvesting dead plants. For example, fallen eucalyptus leaves would make a fine addition to any protection powder against malevolent spirits, due to its association with both protection and death.
Sea shells and snail shells are traditionally common in bone throwing for representing the bones of the sea and the bones of the earth, respectively. If you donât have actual bones on you, these would make a nice substitute.
Although blood is often recommended for linking yourself to a spell, you may also use nail clippings, hair, saliva, or even tears.
Paper clips are an accessible, cheap source of steel, which is mainly iron. A great ingredient in protection spells.
Dawn is a great time to work with beginnings and afterlife, while dusk has potential for spells about endings.
Dirt from crossroads or the gate of a cemetery helps one connect to spirits, and cross over into the afterlife.
Donât want to use bones? Use nail clippings, talons, teeth, or even snakeskin or furs.
Forest Gods and Guardians
You ask Ullr to bless your hunt. You get one buck with an impressive rack.Â
You ask Freyr to bless your hunt. You get a few fat does that fill your freezer, and a few skinny ones that wouldnât have survived the winter.Â
You ask Odin to bless your hunt. You get three chipmunks, some blurry photos of Bigfoot, and an old leatherbound hunting journal that had belonged to your grandfather, who disappeared in these same woods all those years ago âŚ. You ask Skadi to bless your hunt. The cops never find their bodies.

Rose Elixir Recipe
(based on a recipe from Sacred Year, by Anni Daulter)
2 ounces of dried rose petalsÂ
4 - 6oz honey
10 - 12 ounces of vodka or brandy
1 pint canning jar
Mix together in the jar and let infuse in a cool place protected from sunlight (you might also like to charge up your elixir under the full moon or new moon).
(This elixir is intended to offer support with anxiety or emotional stress. It can be dropped under the tongue, stirred into water or tea, or added to a bath)
Wheel of the Year : LITHA
The Summer Solstice is the most powerful day of the year for the sun energies and as our first potion of the Wheel of the Year, âLitha Potionâ is perfect to enjoy these hot days even if some of us arenât that comfortable with heat. Â Instructions:
Light the candle every time you make a step of the process to concentrate the fire energy into every ingredient.
Mix the almond gum powder with 2 cups of water in a container, cover it and let it set for 24 hours.
Put the lemon and mint in a large jar.
Pour over enough boiling water to cover the lemon.
Add enough honey  to make it sweet enough.
Let it cool.
Strain the liquid into a glass.
Get your almond gum and strain out the excess liquid.
Add this to a lemonade, and stir.
Refrigerate and add some crushed ice, and then its ready to be served!

Tips for the Secret Witch
For all the witches who need to keep their Craft under wraps. Whether it is because of a lack of space, sharing your space with religious roommates (or simply people who donât âgetâ witchcraft), or if you just would like your privacy, this list can help you out.
Altars
- Keep all your ritual tools in a plain box (like a shoe box) that can be easily tucked under your bed or in your closet and away from prying eyes.
- You can draw out an altar in a sketchbook. You can also add pictures printed from online or from magazines.
- Using glass jar candles can help make any magical space look mundane, and they come in a large variety of scents too (and people will always know what to get you when holidays roll around!).
- If you want to make an altar for a deity, but canât make it too obvious, put a jar candle next to a trinket or picture associated with that deity. For example, a rose candle next to a sea shell for Aphrodite.
Magick
- Use colors matching your intent. This can mean you wear a red shirt, or carry a blue pen, or carry a green handbag.Â
- Enchant your jewelry. You can make a bracelet for protection, earrings for love, a necklace for luck, etc.
- Enchant your makeup, lotion or hair products. You can also use your face cleanser as a magical cleanser as well.
- Sigils. Sigils are simple symbols with intent put into them. They can be easily mistaken for simple doodles or intricate designs.
Crystals, Herbs and Incense
- If you are planning on having herbs in your room/space, you may wish to keep them in mason jars rather than plastic baggies. Many ignorant people assume that any herb in a baggy is marijuana. Iâve had someone mistake chamomile for marijuana beforeâŚ
- Drinking tea is an innocent way to incorporate herbs into any practice. Teas come in all sorts of blends and flavors (they also usually come in fancy tins that you can save!). If you have a well known fondness for tea, if you start to buy herbs to mix your own blends, most wouldnât blink an eye.
- Gardening or house plants. This is an easy way to incorporate herbs and plants without drawing attention.
- Crystals are very pretty. Crystal and rock collecting is also a very common hobby.Â
- If you donât have access to incense, use jar candles, wax melts (with the warmers) or any type of open-and-leave-it air fresheners.
Witchy ToolsÂ
- To make an easy pendulum, loop a piece of cord or string through a ring. The weight of the ring will act just like a pendulum. You can also use an old necklace or bracelet depending on the length of the chain.
- Playing cards instead of Tarot cards. If you have trouble remembering the cards, doodle little symbols on each card that help you remember. You can also use trading game cards (like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh!) if the pictures help you more.
Grimoires and Witchy Books
- Depending on your living situation, a plain notebook may not deter nosey people from snooping. If you need an alternative, pick up an old book from a thrift shop to write notes in. You can add notes in the margins, write over the print with markers, or glue in your own pages. This way your grimoire can sit on your bookshelf and look completely innocent.
- Note taking apps. I recommend Tumblr for a secret witch, mainly because you can have a witchy side blog to hold all your notes and no one will know. However, there are also a lot of note-taking apps (like OneNote) that let you create various ânotebooksâ and sections.
- Planner notebooks or binders. Most planners have some sort of personal inserts that can be made that you can write witchy notes. Itâs also a super easy way to keep track of moon cycles and sabbats. This also allows you to get super creative.
Common Desk Supplies in Witchcraft
đ Paper clips - Paper clips are made of steel, which is mostly iron, so it can be used as a substitute for iron or iron shavings. Cut one up and put it in a protection powder. Or, you can bend it into a shape (like a sigil) for a simple window protection spell. Paper clips are known for their elasticity and tension, making them great for change spells, friendship spells, or even curses. They can also connect certain things, or make chains. On a practical note, paper clips can be bent into mini candle holders.
đ Tape - Tape can obviously be used for bindings. It can also be used for invisibility spells or glamors, if you cover a certain word or object with tape. Using tape on a poppet may help protection or healing, but only for a little while.
âď¸Â Pencils/Pens - These uses change based on color. However, all of them can be used as wands, or to amplify a spell. You may bless or enhance a pen by washing it with a soap or tea, or cleansing it in incense smoke.
đ  Staples - Also made of steel, staples can be used for wards and bindings. Any spell involving pain can include staples. When you staple, you instill pain; when you remove a staple, you heal. They can also connect certain things, and are good for knowledge or love spells.Â
đ  Thumbtacks - These are great for protection jars, banishing spirits and, of course, curses. To see through certain situations, you may use a thumbtack to poke through a paper or bag, representing clarity. However, be aware that clarity obtained this way may not come pleasantly.
đ Sticky notes - Sticky notes have more flexibility than regular paper, in that you can attach them. Use sticky notes for sigils on the go, or stick several sheets of sticky notes together in order to represent layers. If you would like to expand your knowledge, reveal a secret, or even divine, you can write on the top sticky note with a colored pen that matches the intent. Then place a drop of essential oil or moon water on the top note, and see what shapes it forms in the bottom notes.
âď¸Â Highlighters - Highlighters can be used similarly to pens. They also add extra light and glow to a design, which amplifies a spellâs power.
đ Rubber bands - Youâve probably used rubber bands before to wrap up baggies and such. In magic, they can represent tension, flexibility, binding, or releasing emotions. Stretch a rubber band between two poppets (or other symbols of people, like apples) to represent tension between two persons. In the same way, you can also use rubber bands for love, passion and lust spells.
âď¸ Â Envelopes - Envelopes represent anything that encompasses, compresses, or confuses a person. Open envelops or write inside of them for inner clarity. Seal the envelope for anything you want to forget, trap, or hide. You can also use envelopes to hold herbs as a discreet form of witchcraft.
â Erasers - Obviously, erasers can help banish or hide things. They also work for invisibility spells, and release a ton of energy through friction. You may want to consider writing a sigil on an eraser, and then erasing it until the sigil wears off.Â
âď¸Â Scissors - Scissors can act as a magical knife for those who do not yet have one. Scissors can disconnect and cut off regrets, guilt, persons or memories. Scissors can also be used to carve into candles.
đ Rulers - If youâre into number magic, a ruler is the tool for you. Imagine drawing a symbol in the exact dimensions of a number that corresponds to your intent!Â
Feel free to add! .+(´^Ď^`)+.
