Rey // The Last Jedi

Here is my print for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration. It’s called “Making Friends” and shows kiddo Rey gathering the materials for her little buddy… Good ol’ Captain Dosmit Ræh. I REALLY got attached to the little glimpse we see of the doll in Force Awakens because it’s Rey’s friend in what was likely a lonely time for her on Jakku. I also wanted to show a young Rey as resourceful, determined, crafty, and imaginative all at once.

Now that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out and tearing up the box office I thought it would be a good time to reflect where we are in this current era of Star Wars. Since The Walt Disney purchased Lucasfilm they have rejuvenated the franchise, possibly making the fandom bigger than ever. But it didn’t come without some nervousness about 3 major gambles. 1) Announcing new saga movies, films without George Lucas’ involvement. 2) End the successful animated series The Clone Wars with Star Wars Rebels. 3) Making new stand alone movies. Well to get to the point quickly. Rebels is a huge hit, The Force Awakens is the biggest domestic film ever, and Rogue One is being hailed as the best Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back. The success of Star Wars starts at the top, Kathleen Kennedy was hand picked by the maker himself before the Disney deal was official to be the big boss of Lucasfilm. And that was the best move ever! And now, Star Wars is in the hands of some of the most talented and visionary minds in the industry. And those people are life long Star Wars fans. People like JJ Abrams, Garreth Edwards, Pablo Hildago, & Dave Filoni to name a few. Even composers like Michael Giacchino & Kevin Kiner who grew up with John Williams are now making their mark. I really don’t want to blab, just felt in my heart and mind to share my opinion about this amazing time to be a Star Wars fan. And I haven’t even mentioned Star Wars Land coming to Disneyland & Walt Disney World. Thanks for reading, May the Force be with you!
