Many fans of psychobilly music can argue all day long about the origins of the genre or what constitutes a band as psychobilly. We would like to stray a bit from that conversation and simply give you a list of what songs we personally would include on a mixtape as...
O.C. Weekly recently hit us up & asked if we would be interested in making a Psychobilly "top 10" list for them. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity, but we added our own little twist...
This piece was meant to be an introductory mixtape of sorts for anyone new or clueless to the Psychobilly genre. Our intention was not to name off the "essentials" or "best bands" because that will vary from person to person. We simply wanted to make a short compilation of songs that we appreciate. I know that a few of the songs and bands on that list were my own personal introduction to Psychobilly. I didn't yet have the internet at that time, so my buddy made me a mixtape with a ton of great stuff, most of which I still love nearly 20 years later! That one mixtape motivated me to go out & buy more records & cd's, go to shows and watch bands that I had never heard of before, & shed a light on a genre that I had hardly any previous knowledge about.
Seeing others post lists of their favorites or recommended listening makes me SUPER happy because that means a conversation has been started. Psychobilly music and fans have a ton of heart and our inspiration and influences come from all corners of rock'n'roll! So having said all of that, again THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read about our shared passion! 💖
P.S. Remy spoke with Amy Osmond yesterday in regards to Demented Are Go's cover of "Crazy Horses" and here's what she had to say:
"It's an honor to have a song that my father wrote be covered by Demented Are Go. It's a fun, high-energy cover of what Rolling Stone Magazine's listed as the #43 greatest boy band song of all time."
