Riley makes me want to cry. Both her and Olivia remind me of the comic strip 'the angriest dog in the world' by David Lynch.
She seems to hold it together with dry humour and just straight up lying. Like. Hey, Jake, everyone on planet earth is insane, let's just pretend like the world isn't fucking ending around us-
Jake asks her certain questions and you can just be like. Don't remember. I didn't get a yearbook photo cause I just. I didn't feel like it. Yes I have a perfectly normal and positive relationship with my father.
One of the most telling things is when Jake's like oh I saw your father once! He said he was so proud of you! And she immediately cuts him off with 'jacob, seriously, he just wanted me out of the house.' don't even get me started on the electricity thing. I love her so much.
Olivia is brilliant too because she is just straight up emotionally repressing. Like the entire time. She lashes out consistently, feels terribly alone because Charlie and Violet don't understand her- how could they? Even then, they're children, they can't be expected to fix eachother, it'd never work- but her heart truly isn't mad. Do you ever think about how, up on the tower, with the "you promised-" she sounds like she's about to cry? How she fucking begs you to let her die? To go back home? Vulnerability is painful and these are strangers and she's really so tired. Putting my head in my hands.
I love violet so much. Both her and Charlie stick around for Olivia. The fact that her and liv have known each other for fifteen years, basically their entire lives.. She most likely knew basil and marigold. Cries. The way she really really really wants to help, to the extent that she vouchers for Riley if you're nice to her.. she can help us.. she was nice to me... The fact that she does take a stand, blocks the way, says hey.. please .. listen?

I sympathise with it. I have to. Yes it's terrible timing. But I think she's been putting up with Olivia's consistent lashing out that she needs someone to tell about it and post-group split up it's a sort of fuck you, you need to understand how much this hurts. This is your fault I feel this way thing. I don't understand why you won't talk to us about it. I always think about that 'she (Riley) has been nicer to us today than you have in eight months' line.
