Located in the central region of Belo Horizonte, it was inaugurated on September 26, 1897, even before the inauguration of the new mining capital. It is the oldest environmental heritage of Belo Horizonte and was designed in the late nineteenth century by the construction commission in charge of planning the new capital of Minas Gerais. It has an area of ââ182 thousand square meters of extensive vegetation. It houses the Francisco Nunes Theater, Orchid, a small amusement park and the back part of the Palace of Arts.  After 111 years of its implementation, the park today forms a representative ecosystem with centuries-old trees and wide diversity of species. It has several springs that supply three lagoons and about 280 species of exotic and native trees, such as fig, jackfruit, bald cypress, flamboyant, eucalyptus, sapucaia, pau-mulatto and pau-rei. The space also houses more than 100 species of birds, including black-throated, thrush, herons, parakeets, woodpeckers, sakurah, saira and other animals such as skunks and tamarins. It is a true refuge for wildlife.  AmĂ©rico RennĂ© Giannetti Municipal Park was designed in English romantic style by French landscape architect Paul Villon to be the largest and most beautiful urban park in Latin America. Before its implementation, the space housed the farm of Mr. Guilherme Vaz de Mello, known as ChĂĄcara do Sapo. The place served as housing for Paul Villon himself and for AarĂŁo Reis, chief engineer of the Construction Commission, in charge of planning and building the new capital of Minas Gerais. In 1924, State Governor OlegĂĄrio Maciel transfers the official residence to the Municipal Park until the end of his term.  The park originally had an area of ââ600,000 square meters. From 1905, the process of losing spaces for various buildings begins and from its original area, the park reaches the 21st century with only 182,000 square meters.
