Cute Etsy Find

Hello all! My name is Shannon and I am the founder and creator of Etsy Shop: SharkieByShannon. I am a college student who struggles with a few mental health issues such as anxiety and depression....you know all the fun things lol. 

Anyways, I find great solace in creating macrame and selling them on my Etsy page. It makes me feel like I am good at something and I enjoy sharing my creations with the world because I really put a lot of effort into them.

CaNt StOp CrAfTiNg!!!

Hello! I hope everyone is staying sane..... as much as possible at least. What I learned is really helpful to keep your mental health in check is to pick up some kind of hobby. 

For me, I decided to learn how to macrame because it’s always been something I have wanted to learn. Before I knew, I had more macrame than I knew what to do with (pictures included). Seriously this shit started to pile up in my room real quick. I figured listing my macrame on Etsy would be the perfect way to make some money all while doing something I really enjoy doing. 

Also since this blog was originally suppose to be for my entrepreneurship class (yikes we lost sight of that real quick), I thought what better way to use what I have learned in class and try to turn my Etsy shop into BIG BUCKS. 

So here we are, again. Etsy shop and all. Hey if you’re reading this, I would really love if you could check it out. I put a lot of work into my crafts and it makes me so happy when someone buys my little macrame things. Anyways, I’m going to include some pictures and the link to the shop for fun.

Macrame

Hello everyone! Quarantine day..... I lost track to be honest. 

During these times of social distancing I have found it incredibly hard to stay happy. It’s hard to not fall into a depressed mood especially when you are prone to that. This situation is new and scary for everyone and it is in our best benefit to find things to help calm us down at a time like this. 

What I find helps is macrame. Macrame is something I picked up during the quarantine and I have found it extremely helpful for focusing on something and taking your mind off other things. If you don’t know what macrame is, it is basically a craft-like activity in which you tie together cotton cord in different patterns to make cool patterns. Above is a picture of the macrame that I have made. 

It is so important during times like this to find small things that make us happy and to focus on them. I have poured all my energy into learning this new craft and I have found it extremely therapeutic. I encourage everyone reading to find something that they have always wanted to do but just never have and to simply do it. Time is no longer an issue and I think it is important to take advantage of that.

GOOD/AFFORDABLE SKIN CARE ROUTINE!

Hello Everyone!

Blog Post #3! Woohoo, still no one reading but we’re just going to keep trucking along here. As we have entered this quarantined time period, I'm sure most of you learned fast how important it is to take care of yourself and the effect it has on your mental health as a person. It’s easy to lose track of a routine when we have no where to be but, ladies and gentlemen, self care is important! So get up and brush your teeth and take care of your skin!! 

Well anyway’s, since I really enjoy my skin care routine, I thought I would make a post about it. First of all, I have pretty oily skin but also dry skin, so I guess that would mean combination skin...? Either way, I found that moisturizing your skin is KEY no matter what. Grab my hand and let me guide you through my skin care routine........

MORNING 

Exfoliate everyday with the Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub 

Tone with Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel and cotton pad 

Apply serum (I like to switch between Retinol, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin C)

Apply Bliss Ex-glow Sion Eye Cream

Liberally apply Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 50 (I know it’s annoying when people say sunscreen is important but it really is)

NIGHT

Double cleanse with Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil if wearing makeup (only one time if not wearing makeup) 

Clean and Clear Spot Treatment (If needed)

Apply Burt’s Bees Complete Nourishment Facial Oil

Apply Bliss Ex-glow Sion Eye Cream

Moisturize with CervaVe Moisturizing Cream 

And thats pretty much it. Now I know what you’re thinking, seems too simply, but don’t worry this is my tried and true skin care method. Please also take into account that I’m a poor college student and not a skin care expert whatsoever! HA!

My Saving Grace...the Passion Planner

So it looks like my last post got one note! I made it mom! Sharing is caring guys, let’s make this thing go BIG! (pls lol).

Anyway, since this blog is about mental health I thought I should talk about what has been my saving grace in keeping me sane these past two years... my passion planner. 

My friend Sam bought me my first passion planner last year because she loves hers and she knows how neurotic I am and let me just tell you, my life was changed. I’m a person that gets really stressed and anxious about almost nothing and writing things down makes me feel immensely better. 

What is a passion planner you might ask. Well, a passion planner is a leather bound planner that has really inspirational things in it and helps hot messes like me get their life together. I know it sounds simply and dumb but my passion planner calms me down. 

My passion planner soothes me faster than my Zoloft ever will. When I feel stressed ad overwhelmed, I whip out my passion planner and write everything down and boom, instant relief. 

Trust me, I am fully aware I sound like a type A happy little a**hole camper with my passion planner but I don't even care. I love my passion planner so much and I will scream it from the rooftops! 

Well, I think that is all for now but don’t you worry I will be back soon. Someone really needs to help me make this thing popular because so far not so great but I am optimistic (kinda.... lol). Below are pictures of my best friend... the passion planner.

PLEASE READ THIS! (PLS!)

           Like many of us, I have had to deal with my fair share of mental health issues and over my 21 years of life and as cheesy and cliché as it sounds, I have come to learn how important mental heath is. Don’t get me wrong, my eyes roll out of my head and onto the floor every time I hear an over-used cliché but as my teenage angst slowly faded as I entered my 20’s, I’ve realized that clichés are clichés for a reason; they hold great amounts of truth. As much as I hate to admit it, those eye-roll inducing cliché you’ve heard your whole life from every other adult who is trying to violently stuff their life wisdom down your throat, are actually true. Unfortunately, (like most of us I’m sure) I learned the importance of mental health the hard way and that is okay. You have to fall before you can get back and realize that you are strongest to do so and that what everyone says is right: mental health is important.

This blog came out of a class assignment to make a blog that we are passionate about and keeping my mental health in check is something that I have slowly become passionate about over the years. This blog is going to be about how I deal with keeping my mental health in check and just some insights I have about the topic.

           Let me first tell you more about myself before you decide this blog is cliché garbage and decide to never read it again. My name is Shannon and I am a 21-year-old girl who is finishing up my third year of college at San Diego State University. If you’re picturing a blond San Diego surfer chick, stop right there. I’m Middle Eastern and I have thick, crazy, curly hair so as you can imagine I don’t match the typical description of a San Diego State student but honestly being different and not fitting in is a common theme in my life.

           I’m still figuring out how to deal with mental health issues and this blog is just going to be me sharing my experiences and my ups and downs. I would love you to come along for the ride. But like also I need to somehow develop a viewership on this blog for the project, so read it! And share it? Like it? I don’t really know exactly. Just do whatever the kids are doing these days I guess and that’ll be good.
