INT. HOTEL BAR - EVENING: We open on the two sitting across from each other in opposite booths, both avoiding the elephant in the room surrounding them. Ghosts follow them both; they are not much different from one another.
CLAIRE: You ever think about it? Raccoon City?
She hesitates asking, knowing Leon hates the topic. They both avoid it like the plague; she can’t stop herself from asking. She’s curious.
LEON: You don’t really forget something like that.
He’s short with his words, his tone indicating his lack of enthusiasm about the conversation. He despises Raccoon City; if he could take a pill to wipe it from his memory completely, he would without hesitation.
FLASHBACK SEQUENCE: Multiple images of Raccoon City and the Police Department flash across the scene, painting the grotesque and bloody scene. They’re images of nightmares to those who view it, let alone those who had lived through the traumatic night. Only those who witnessed and survived it will understand the true grievances of those who survived.
CLAIRE: I keep wondering what we could’ve done differently.
Every word is painted with a truth; she wishes she could have done more to save those who needed saving. She’s not a fighter, though; she seeks justice in other forms besides those Leon and Chris practice.
LEON: Probably never show up at that fucking police station.
There’s a hidden malice behind the words, one targeted towards himself and only himself. He’s a stranger inside his own body because of that night, every part of him wishes he could kill it just like it killed so many others.
END OF SCENE.
