Lili still couldn’t decide whether to laugh or be annoyed about the whole situation. One badly misjudged jump on the stairs, and now both of her legs were trapped in thick blue casts. One was shorter, while the other extended all the way up her thigh, leaving her almost completely immobile.
The first few days had been awful. Everything took forever, and even sitting down in the armchair felt like a small military operation. But as the days passed, she slowly got used to the weight of the casts and their strange stiffness.
That evening, she was relaxing in the living room with her legs stretched out in front of her. The blue casts tightly surrounded her legs, while her exposed toes occasionally moved, as if trying to make up for the total lack of movement everywhere else.
“Funny, isn’t it?” she smiled softly. “I used to run around all day… and now I’m happy if I can just get comfortable.”
Still, there was something strangely peaceful about it all. The dim light of the room, the soft armchair, and the heavy casts holding her legs securely in place made Lili stop thinking about the accident for once. Instead, she realized that sometimes life forces you to slow down… even if it takes two heavy casts to do it.
