Also, and that's true for everyone, whether you're a celebrity or not: if you don't know much about something you don't need to say anything about it (and I believe sometimes things would be better if people kept their mouth shout about things they know nothing about).
Like, if I know nothing about a subject I won't say anything about it just because someone tells me X is evil/wrong. And one or two links to sources don't change that. As a friend of mine once said "You can find sources and proof for everything if you really want to, that doesn't make it true". And that's especially true for the internet.
I'm not saying people necessarily lie, but noone is immune to propaganda. And if it's a topic you know nothing about, how would you know if that expert is actually an expert, or that source a trusted source? Especially when it comes to stuff in other countries where you don't know the language and have to rely on translations and the few information that are available in your language.
And forcing people to make a statement (because that's exactly what it is, forcing others) on something they might know nothing about is just terrible. And that goes for small blogs, influencers, celebrities and just everyone. Especially since a lot of things aren't as black and white as it likes to be portrait. Especially in political situations there often are a lot of mistakes made on both sides and on both sides innocent people have to suffer.
Forcing people to make a statement often causes more harm than good. Not only to the people themself but also to the cause. It just festers resentment on both sides and helps false information to spread which just complicates things even more.
And yes, I agree that people should educate themself on these things. But many don't have the energy to educate themself on everything. Or the lack of ressources. Because as I said before, sometimes there are language barriers, different cultural backgrounds and stuff like that, that make inderstanding difficult.
So just because someone doesn't say something about a topic it doesn't mean they side with the abuser or opressor. It might just mean they don't know enough about the thing and don't have the energy, ability or ressources to inform themself.
And no, a statement from someone who was there isn't necessarily enough information. Because they might only know part of the truth, they might just be an innocent person caught up in a much bigger much more complicated conflict or they might be ommitting information that would change the story completely.
