You gotta pay attention to what people think is frivolous because tbh it always comes down to certain people’s dignified living conditions being frivolous
In case anyone was wondering my opinion on all the elderly people dying of heatstroke in their apartments in Europe it is that this is obviously a logistical issue that Europe has not prepared for irt climate change and also: this is a case where air conditioning, which is seen by many as only a manifestation of “American entitlement”, has turned out to be a serious infrastructure requirement that hasn’t been undertaken because of monetary reasons yes, but also for cultural reasons where people think “I can get by fine, never mind my elderly or disabled neighbor, therefore installing ac is an expression of needing to be 100% comfortable at all times and therefore an expression of a weakness of character”. This contains a lot of assumptions gained from stereotypes about Americans being lazy and soft and stupid and rich and whatever, rather than the fact it gets very hot here which is a medical issue for lots of people. I could go on about how growing up my family didn’t turn the ac on until it hit the mid 90s or how my parents and brother are currently on summer number two without air conditioning because they haven’t been able to afford to fix it but whatever, no European gives a shit about how hard it can be to be rural working class in the Midwest. I think a connection could be made here between the stereotype of the lazy entitled American and the lazy entitled zoomer, where while these people are obnoxious, they aren’t necessarily wrong about what they—and by extent all people—are entitled to, which is to live in conditions that are safe and healthy, to work in dignified and safe workplaces for a livable wage. The European urge to dismiss this as entitlement is going to bite them in the ass when they reach old age and croak in their 100 degree apartment in 30 years because getting ac is far too soft and American
The people dismissing the concerns of young people about working conditions will be fine tho lol as it’s been established they already sucked up all the money and jobs and resources

I don’t think it’s insane to draw a parallel from people that want to keep their records encased in resin so they remain perfect forever and you can use it as an asset but not play it and the millionaire guys who think they’re going to defeat death
