I just love playing with Xels and what they do, these things were created to simulates humanity and I want to see all of it. They're blood, sweat, tears and every other fluid, they shake under intense emotion, they're crystals and goo and spores.
Depending on the state and who is concerned they are currency, food, waste, clay, flesh, weapons, medecine, tumors, bugs, parasites and maggots and butterflies and angels and demons and voices from no one and everyone and everything at once.
They belonged to a hundred things and people of all sizes and status and nature from everywhere and everytime since their creation, anything with them is garanteed to have seen countless iterations in a ship of Thesseus built from an endless flow of circulating lifeblood from all over the planet.
And even if they seem endless and everywhere, even if they can be repaired, recharged and recycled, they are made and unmade, they constantly are, there was a time before and there will be a time after, be it by obsolescence or destruction or peacefully forgotten knowledge.
I absolutely adore how such a weird abstract concept is made instinctively and effortlessly cool by the great wisdom of the 90's: PUT A ROBOT IN IT ! These thing are, in and out of universe, built by rule of cool, and there is a good reason for someone, in and out of it, to say "Hey isn't it weird that they're made as a reflection and aknowledgement of man's ever growing, cyclical, chaotic, self destructive, beautiful, supportive, all consuming, uncertain existence down to their very building blocks and elemental particles ?
Anyway imagine if when Beck gets a better complex control over his body from deconstructing, rapid-fire, slighty mind/time/space short and long scale he starts altering his density, retracting limbs or organs to dodge attacks or moving his core around or even outside his body.
I swear these things deserve to be a mascot no wonder they did a plushie.
