We are not figuratively but literally stardust.

The city of Seattle, Washington has commissioned artist Peregrine Church to install a series of art pieces that can only be seen when it rains. [x] [x]
I showed this to my daughter and she said I should get it for myself for Mother’s Day (how cool is that?). She said since Gaia symbolizes Mother Earth (this is an eleven year-old’s interpretation, mind you) it would be perfect for a Mother’s Day gift to myself. I love that girl so much!
I can’t believe I found one and it was about ½ the price of every other one I’ve seen! I’m so excited- she is on her way to me as we speak!!!
Following description by 13moons.com:
Exqusite work expressing their Love of Earth from Oberon & Morning Glory Zell.
Keys to the Images on Gaia’s Body:
Moving outward from Her womb, engraved tattoos on Gaia’s legs display the evolution on life in the seas, from the earliest bacteria and single-celled protozoa, to sea mammals on her buttocks. A key to all the creatures and their eras, is provided.
Similar engravings on her arms show the forests: Redwoods on Her right arm, and the tropical Rain Forest on Her left.
Her right breast is a cornucopia of nourishing fruits and vegetables, while Her left breast-over Her heart-is the Moon, whose phases beat the pulse of the ocean’s tides and women’s cycles.
In the back of Her hair, tiny creatures trace the evolution of vertebrate life on the land, with braids representing the double helix of DNA forming the umbilical branches of the Tree of Life. The chronological scale is logarithmic, beginning at the base with the Devonian Age, when the first Amphibians crawled out of the swamps onto dry land, and progressing upwards towards modern times. Different geological eras are distinguished by differing background vegetation. The accompanying diagram provides a detailed key. At the crown of Her head, the pinnacle of emergent consciousness (“Crown of Creation”) is represented by a Whale over her right hemisphere, and a Human Child over Her left. The child holds a ball-a globe of the Earth. Around Her face, clusters of leaves representing the fifteen sacred trees on the Celtic Tree Calendar comprise Her hair. A key is provided. Also among her hair are flowers: Rose, Poppy, Hibiscus, Daisy, and Morning Glory. Circling Her shoulders, a Monarch Butterfly represents the Sun, and a Luna Moth the Moon. Other Sacred Insects may be found among Her leafy locks: a Dragonfly, a Scarab, and a Spider.

Dust if you must. But wouldn’t it be better, To paint a picture, or write a letter, Bake a cake, or plant a seed? Ponder the difference between want and need.
Dust if you must. But there is not much time With rivers to swim and mountains to climb! Music to hear, and books to read, Friends to cherish and life to lead.
Dust if you must. But the world’s out there With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, A flutter of snow, a shower of rain. This day will not come round again.
Dust if you must. But bear in mind, Old age will come and it’s not kind. And when you go, and go you must, You, yourself, will make more dust.

You’re thinking “is he really going to spend the whole book worrying?” and then it hits you
Fuck. I didn’t get it until the comment
1. your journal will never look like you want it to look. 2. the best people are the ones that stare at the same things you do. 3. the world, your world, will collapse upon itself a million times. in the morning, you will build it back again from scratch. 4. the best kind of moments are the ones you don’t need to tell anyone about. 5. standing outside, looking up at the moon, and following the curvature of the earth with your finger will make your problems seem smaller. 6. just because you’ve really been wanting something for a really long time does not mean you will get it. 7. many boys will call you beautiful. only a handful will make you feel like it. 8. your body performs an infinite amount of processes in order to keep you alive. this fact alone is more important than whatever it is you’re going through. 9. you don’t have to have all the answers. 10. your heart can not break. it is a beating, bloody, pumping muscle. a boy, or a girl, can not shatter that. 11. the pain in your chest will find a hole between your ribs, and slowly, it will seep beneath the cracks and become a part of you. you will come out stronger. 12. envying other’s success won’t make you any less of a failure. 13. people who’re confident enough to not give a damn should be taken note of. 14. every problem, other than death, has a solution 15. parents are not always right. 16. the universe’s plan for you will outweigh any plan you have for yourself. believe that life will always take you where you need to be. 17. over time, you will be a different person. this can be thirty seconds, or a year. people will tell you you’re not true to your beliefs. people will tell you anything. but keep in mind that to change is to evolve. without change, there is no life. your ancestors did not survive because they remained sleeping alone underneath the stars. stay above the water. keep breathing. expand. learn. grow.

Venus of Willendorf soap mold!! How cool is this!
A Mardi Gras parade post from @eldebo made me think of this tonight so I thought I would share. Growing up in Florida I was a Disney kid. Heck who am I kidding I am still a Disney fanatic. Thanks to resident seasonal passes being affordable back in the day my mom took us several times a year and I loved the Main Street Electric Light Parade! I wanted to work there so bad after high school and I wanted to be one of the dancers in the Cinderella segment of the parade. They had big white powdered wigs packed with ringlets piled high on their heads and huge hoop skirt gowns that were completely lit up with twinkle lights. They danced with handsomely dressed suitors throughout the length of the parade and I tell you that was it for me, that was the dream. Back in those days though (before weight discrimination laws happened) the dancers were all pretty slim girls and from talking to people who had at one time or another worked at the park, if you wanted to have that job you had to fit into the dress (the pic above is obviously a recent one and shows how things have changed-including the costumes which are not as lovely as they used to be) and after a couple years of suffering through weight watchers I couldn't drop below a size 12 waist and well my boobs just kept getting bigger as I got older. I was convinced I was this huge fat blob and was never going to be small enough to fit the lighted gown. I gave up on my Disney dream. I look back now though and just shake my head. I very foolishly listened to the adults around me who convinced me I was too fat. I trusted their opinion as fact and never pursued it on my own which yes was really dumb. So as a way to recapture my dream, I keep saying one of these years I'm going to make my own lighted gown (for Halloween most likely) and dance to my hearts content -I will just need to incorporate speakers into the costume so I can play the parade music on repeat all night 💖
this kid is going places
So it seems I'm going to spend yet another weekend sick, last weekend was a ridiculously long stomach bug and now I've got a chest cold with a sore throat which is one of the worst things for me :( HOWEVER-Netflix has Fantasia 2000! My two favorite parts are The Firebird Suite and Rhapsody in Blue 💙
So one of my children asked me why My Favorite Things is played so much around the holidays, since it’s not really a holiday song per se. Not having an immediate answer, I thought about it. And while the simple answer is the imagery parts of the song creates-silver white winters, snowflakes and sleigh bells- but the more I contemplated I kinda decided I liked it as a holiday song because for many (including me) this time of year can be a kettle boiling full of overwhelming emotions just waiting to burst and to stop for a moment and think of my favorite things can bring a smile when it’s most needed and calm the tempest beneath the surface. SO, I decided to start adding in a few posts of my favorite things, as I think of them :)
Thought I would do this again this year :)
Still listening to Pandora 💜 and this song makes me stop whatever I am doing and listen every time it seems. If you have not ever heard more than this one mainstream song you should really listen to some of her other stuff, it's really quite lovely music!
Holiday musings #2
If you are venturing out shopping this weekend keep 2 things in mind, 1st it’s not roller/demolition derby. There is no need to body check anyone nor cut anyone off. Be mindful of mama’s with strollers because trying to navigate a contraption that has wiggling and likely unhappy passengers and next to zero steering capability is difficult enough without you stepping right in front of it. And 2nd-bathe before you go out-PLEASE! It’s crowded and we’re likely in closer proximity than we would ever normally be and well let’s not use body funk as a means of clearing a path through the crowd. Just sayin’ 😊
Holiday musings #1
So as the holidays are upon us in full force I thought I might share some of the randomness that comes out of my brain. The first of which is holiday music. I want to know why, when damn near every artist does their own holiday album, do the radio stations insist on playing the same stale collection of tunes?! I could care less if they play jingle bells all day long as long as it's a different person's take on it each time. Just sayin'
