PSA Regarding Boobs:

Large breasts are not better than small breasts. Small breasts are not better than large breasts. I get messages every single day from both women who say their smaller breasts make them feel less feminine or less “sexy”… and full busted women who want reductions and lifts for a variety or reasons - including the fact that they are constantly over-sexualized. There are pros and cons to all sizes of boob, I assure you. The grass is always greener.

I am barely 95 lbs and I’m a 32 D/DD. Online I am constantly complimented on my physique and my bust - but in real life, if I ever wear something other than a loose fitting shirt and relaxed pants, the reaction I get when I interact with strangers tends to be a combination of contempt, disgust, or resentment. Right now our culture seems torn between our older tendency to celebrate general thinness and a newer movement that claims the “perfect” weight is actually the natural state of a woman’s weight if she’s content with herself. So you’d think I’d be complimented by my peers because I happen to be naturally thin - instead I get backhanded compliments from total strangers telling me to “eat a cheeseburger”. Fuller breasts have been glamorized in our society for a good while now so you’d think everyone would be just fine with my cleavage but instead I’m labeled as a “vain slut” when I dare to wear a swimsuit to the beach.

Ladies - There is no such thing as “perfect” breasts just like there is no such thing as a perfect body. Breasts are just breasts, a part of our bodies like our eyes, hands, and belly button. If you think your eyes look better with eyeshadow, wear eyeshadow, if you think your fingers and navel look better with jewelry, wear jewelry. Your body is your own to control or change, but you will never be happy if you are unable to let go of your own negative perception of your body and accept ownership and responsibility for it in the first place. It is yours to exist in or change however you prefer, for yourself. No matter what size or shape your breasts are and no matter the weight or shape of your body people will always police you according to your skin color, lifestyle, relationship status, etc, simply because you’re a woman.

 Mostly Men - If you really want to help and you really want to celebrate women, stop stating what you think you “prefer” as if women who don’t fit these expectations can magically change shape to please you, or as if we care what your prefer in the first place. Understand that you have been told your entire life that your “preference” should be the standard. You’ve been lied to. I’m not saying you can’t have personal preferences, but understand that how you choose to communicate them with such polarizing language can potentially be damaging to women in general. If you don’t care, that’s fine… But you don’t get to go on pretending like you don’t know why women aren’t confident enough with their bodies to let you fuck them with the lights on. The end.
