FLORENCE PUGH as YELENA BELOVA in THUNDERBOLTS* (2025)
iiii. captured ft. @plummoons
The forest was alive with the sounds of night—rustling leaves, the creak of branches swaying in the wind. But none of it mattered. Archer moved through the trees like a shadow, his eyes gleaming in the darkness as he hunted. Every breath he took filled his lungs with the scent of her—familiar, intoxicating, maddening. She had thought she could slip away unnoticed, but there was no hiding from him. Not here. Not ever. The hunt had led him to this moment, and there would be no escape.
He found her in a small clearing, her figure barely visible in the dim moonlight. She was trying to blend into the darkness, as though it could shield her from him, but Archer knew better. The forest could not protect her from his reach. Not when he had already tasted the trail she left behind. With one swift movement, he emerged from the shadows, his presence overwhelming the space like a storm rolling in.
Her breath caught in her throat as he grabbed her, his hand like iron around her wrist. He didn’t allow her the luxury of even a moment’s protest before pulling her against him with a violent, forceful motion. His fingers dug into her skin, his eyes were cold, predatory. There was no softness in him now, only the relentless drive of a wolf who’d caught its prey. "Did you think you could outrun me?" His voice was low, deadly. "You’re mine, Cerise. You always were."
The words dripped from his lips like poison, and Archer’s grip tightened. The fury inside him surged, his rage rising with every breath she took, every moment she dared to think she could escape. "You are nothing without me," he growled, his voice rough with restraint. "Do you understand that?"
For a moment, he simply stood there, breathing in the scent of her. He felt no satisfaction in her attempts to fight back—only an overwhelming, dark hunger to drag her back into the kingdom over his shoulder, to remind her who held the power. "We’re going home. And you will never run from me again." He spat, releasing his hold on her but making sure she knew he was in control.
It was odd to find solace in nature when one had been shielded from it. Most who were lucky enough to live in normality thrived having their toes embedded in soft grass, their skin sunkissed and a gentle breeze caressing their hair. The woods always held an enticing beauty to Cerise. She longed to know what was beyond the walls that held her captive. There was a great big beautiful world she dared to explore but due to sin she did not commit she was left chained out of fear. It wasn't even her own. Cerise liked to believe she was brave. One had to be when living in the circumstances she found herself in with Archer. Perhaps, it wasn't all bravery. It was the word she wished she could say she embodied. It was more so fear that drove her. This dire need to survive. Spite. That might have been the better word to describe her driving force. The will to thrive in spite of everything.
She thought that running away would grant her freedom. It was the thoughts of a foolish, childlike heart. Everything was so much easier for the heroines Cerise had read about. Their perfect endings almost given to them on a silver platter. Sure, their were lessons to learn and hills to climb but they always reached their final destination in the end. A happily ever after that each protagonist is guaranteed. Cerise often wondered if she was the hero of this story unfolding or if she was some villain. From the outside looking in, one could easily pinpoint Archer as the villain. As many times as Cerise had tried to paint him as such in her head the colors never stuck. The picture was always smudged. It was hard to make someone an enemy just to feel better about yourself. Cerise knew she did not deserve the treatment she had endure under Archer's command but Archer had not deserved what had happened to him either. Sympathy was a knife.
Still, she refused to be his bride. there was a life she deserved to live and it wasn't with him. There was no love that she held in her heart for the man. It wasn't fair to either of them. Cerise knew she could and never would fill the hole her grandmother had left. She refused to die trying to do so. Cerise thought she was so clever but it was a rude awakening she was facing as Archer's hands tightened around her throat. She bared her teeth, chocolate brown eyes shifting to a golden amber that blazed with anger. Her wolf rage was a new defense mechanism. She was nowhere as terrifying as Archer but she would still show her fangs regardless. "As a matter of fact, i did. I got far enough didn't I? I'll keep running until my legs give out." She squirmed in his grasp. Defiance painting her tone. "I married you but I am not your property, Archer. You don't own me."
His words were out of anger but Cerise refused to be spoken to in such a manner. If this man desired her love he had a terrible way of trying to earn it. "I am something without you. I was before and I will be after this." she refused to have her worth tied to him. Archer could try and break her spirit but Cerise would go down fighting until she came back spitting out blood. "I understand that you're a jerk."
They stood there in the silence. Face to face as they always did. Cerise looking at him with a mixture of pity and distrust. Perhaps in some other lifetime she could have found herself growing fond of this deeply wounded man but his actions prevented such a thing from happening. "No, i'm not going home with you. That is not my home. Do you understand that? You can't prevent me from running away again, Archer. I will keep running until I am far from you and that place."

Cassius was forced to learn to be aware of his surroundings from a very young age. Most of the witches in his coven were upset that he'd been born male, but some of them were murderous about it. His mother protected him as best as she could but Cass had to learn quickly how to defend himself. It's why he'd learned defensive magic first and had to learn a bit of divination magic to help sense anything coming. He'd proven to be rather terrible at it and couldn't even use Tarot cards probably but he knew enough to sense when things weren't 'normal'. But hiding his own power had made it easier to. hide the threat he actually was especially to the man in front of him.
He made sure his eyes swept over the form of the man in front of him as quickly as they could without being noticed. This man was skittish at best but Cassius was interested and he wouldn't be ruining any chance of getting to know the man better if he could help it. Cass chuckled softly and shrugged a bit. "I suppose you could say that, yeah. I'm just a curious creature by nature...and a funny one. You're a right old statue, aren't ya?" He finished rearranging his items inside his basket and regarded the man in front of him. "Really now. You set off by fruit? They're shite, mate. I ain't agree with ya just because you're spooky." He simply reached over and handed him a pack of blackberries. "Literally anything is better but try these. They suit you."
Nick was not one to do small talk. New recruits had often been warned to steer clear of him. Their fear of his presence prevented them from every trying to get close. The only person who he ever considered more than an acquaintance was his captain. that relationship was more one sided now. Captain often sent well regards, Nick couldn't dare to face him after the monster he had become. The butcher shop was an easy sanctuary. He didn't have to interact with people much. The only interaction he had was between his knifes and the meats. This conversation was lingering on longer than Nick felt comfortable with. normally, anyone he sees would have been scared off by now. Not even bother wasting exchanges but this guy was still here. Nick's interest was piqued in the slightest.
"Curiosity killed the cat. Wouldn't consider ya funny. Annoying seems like the better word for it. Am I now?" Nick was doing his best to turn the other off. The quicker he could be done with the conversation the quicker he would be able to retreat home. "I'm not set off by them. that's a stupid reason t'be set off by. Fine, call the fruit shite if ya want. You think i'm spooky?" It wasn't the first time someone had referred to him as spooky. It was the first time someone was brave enough to say it to his face. Unfortunately for Nick, he had a bit of a reputation and couldn't quite shake the spooky title. Taking the fruit from the other, he inspected them. His brows knitted together. Blackberries. The kid really was trying to be funny here. "And why do these fit me better? 'Cause i'm spooky?"

Rachel Zegler wearing ELIE SAAB – LA premiere of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)
Lucian regarded Nick with a faint, knowing smile, the kind that shimmered in the dim light with an unsettling clarity, as though his gaze could pierce through every shadow the other bore. There was nothing he couldn't read in him, no flicker of doubt or hidden scar that escaped his notice. To Lucian, the man standing before him was laid bare. a soul bruised by unanswered questions, haunted by whispers that longed for answers. It thrilled him.
A low, rich chuckle rumbled from Lucian’s chest, a sound edged with a sort of delighted mockery. Brow arched, voice dripping with a smooth, taunting cadence “Expecting you?”
“ Let's just say I've met enough men running from their own darkness to know the look. Yours… it’s particularly heavy, isn’t it?” His words lingered, sinking into the silence like a stone into deep waters.
Stance remained unyielding, head tilted, gaze sharp and unbroken. He remained unyielding as the other closed the distance “You seem confident," a sly admiration slipping through his tone. “But confidence is a fragile thing, a delicate mask that shatters with the slightest misstep.” Lucian took a small stepped forward, closing the gap between them, letting his presence become a quiet, pressing force.
He leaned in, voice lowering to a whisper that lingered warm against Nick’s ear “So, Nick… what brings you to the edge of your own darkness tonight? Are you seeking answers, or simply curious to see just how deep the darkness goes? curiosity killed the cat.. you know. ”
All his life Nick had lived behind a mask. From a young age, a tougher exterior kept him safe from the abuse his father inflicted. A child is meant to explore the world without fear. See it for all the wonder it has to behold but that innocence was stolen from Nick. The reality world was harsh. There was no dream he could hide in to protect him. No mother's embrace to shelter him from all that could harm him. It was Nick who had to be the protector. In the most formative years of his life, he learned that monsters weren't just in the outside world. They were also within.
The military offered no escape either. If anything, it allowed him to further crawl into this persona he had created to keep him safe. Where Nick began and the mask ended was a fine line, easily blurred together. The alias he once carried was his new identity. Nicholas Bishop was a buried man metaphorically. Unfortunately for Nick, he soon became a buried man physically. His death and rebirth had happened many times. One might have considered death to be his long-standing friend. She was always there in the background, biding her time for when it was appropriate to strike. Her most recent endeavor led him here, where he was once again Nicholas Bishop. There was no mask he could hide behind anymore. For the first time in his life, he was laid bare for all to see.
Nick knew there was no way to hide from the man standing before him. He felt completely exposed, as if every inch of him was laid bare. Lucian's tone chilled Nick to the bone. He wasn’t one to play games, nor did he appreciate being mocked. "I am." his overconfidence often leads him into tricky situations. “Who says I’m runnin' from owt?” his tone was colored with defiance. His second line of defense behind his giant stature. It wasn't often he came face to face with someone - quite literally. "M'used to carryin' heavy things. Nowt I can't handle."
It took a lot for Nick to crumble under pressure. They were in a duel of wits now. He was too calculated to let Lucian see his mask fall. There was truth in the other's words. One misstep and a whole facade could crumble. Nick could never afford to let that happen. There was always too much at stake. He remained unmoving as the darkness inched close, bright blue eyes watching him like a wolf eyeing its prey. He wasn't going to give Lucian any satisfaction.
"I came looking for answers. If you're not going to give 'em to me straight I'll find someone else. I'm not here for your flowery words or games." A smirk danced across his lips, head pulling back so he could look Lucian dead in the eyes. "I'd consider myself a dog rather than a curious cat."

There was very little that stuck in his mind. He never saw it useful to remember things that weren't of any use. Cassius had enough thoughts racing through his head at any moment and he really didn't need to add anymore. Yet there was a much needed skill to his survival that involved memorizing faces of people who could possibly hunt him down or cause him problems. He knew that he was in a rather dangerous career, after all, and there would be a day when scorned victims would come after him. It hadn't happened yet and he'd insured he was a hard man to track. It was that reason that he felt a little uneasy bumping into someone he was sure was far from human and even more so, because he'd seen him more than once in his travels.
Cassius' eyes narrowed a bit trying to pinpoint where all the darkness was coming from. He could practically see the tendrils rising from him like dark hands reaching for the light. There was a hunger in him that reminded him of wolves in the winter looking for a soft creature to satisfy them. He pulled back, stood, and make sure to use his own height to his advantage. Cassius was a tall man and far from slim and lanky but this man was what his mother would lovingly call a big bastard. "Don't get your knickers in a twist. Just making observations." Cass kept his tone neutral though his accent was far from. So he offered a smile in attempt to disarm. "I ken when I overstep in my comments. Didn't mean ta insult ya. Persimmons are shite fruit anyway so I wouldn't care much about any discounts."
Nick had learned to be observant through his profession. The slightest inch of movement or change in expression gave tell to all he needed to know. It was a vital skill that had kept him alive. If he was to keep the upper hand institutions he needed to know his acquaintances before they ever had the chance to know him. The energy was now something he could also detect. Air often felt cooler whenever he was near. Dare he say he was now the specter bringing chills that could frighten even the bravest of men. His expression was stoic as he watched the other man move. At his full height, he didn't reach Nick's level. Then again, not many did. It was easy to be an intimidating force when you had your very own scary dog privileges. There was no detection of threat, his radar was never wrong so Nick allowed himself to relax. only a little built.
He would be hard-pressed to deny the small, sudden flip he felt in his gut at the smile given to him. Those muscles in his face had never been used. It was a foreign sensation. There was nothing much in his life to smile over. He couldn't offer his own back so Nick uncrossed his arms instead, letting them fall to his side clumsily. "Hm, so overstepping is somethin' you do often then. Your observations must be quite interesting. Not insulted. Takes much more than that to offend me." Nick simply wondered if it was that obvious he was no longer human. his hands were the dead give away but with them covered there were no other tell signs. "Well, now you might've insulted me. I quite like them." he gruffed, quickly busing himself with the produce next to him. "And what is it that you consider to not be a shite fruit?"
