It feels weird that it's been almost 4 months since I formed, that's like a quarter of a year. weird.

so we've been in plural spaces for something like 4 years at this point.

and for the last year and a half we've been working on an essay on and off.

and that 7500 word behemoth has finally exited our drafts and is online now.

it's trying to negotiate how to talk about the thorniest parts of plural identity. i think we expressed some useful ideas and articulated a good starting point for having these kinds of discussions.

genuinely interested in productive engagement with the topics therein, but like, make sure ur actually responding to things i said if you're going to try and argue with us on this. it's kind of one long extended argument deliberately building on itself and the similarities and differences between each example.

but just to head off any bad faith readings:

in discussions around "who can identify as transfem" i have sometimes seen plural systems pipe up with "well im transfem but my headmate is transmasc isn't that the same" or similar.

what i have tried to argue here is that these are two entirely different usages of the word (im a linguist, and thus being a descriptivist about this). i very much endorse a strong transfeminist definition of "transfemininity" or "transfeminisation" that centers gender assignment (not necessarily at birth, this is a misnomer in AGAB language, and sometimes pointed to as a reason to reject it entirely by some intersex people who's assignment was changed later in life, but the question is simply what is socially pressured onto you). i think a problem is caused when people who are using this language more metaphorically come into spaces where it is describing a social reality or systems of power and treat this purely as a matter of "identities being valid".

yet there are also a number of reasons a plural system's gender identity/ies may be complicated, and i don't think "it feels kind of like im the other kind of trans because i have to work to present like our assigned gender/i introjected a specific character/etc." is a harmful thing to articulate. what matters is being clear about the lines between internal identity and social position, and what language you are using where and why.

similar answer. some people's headmates look different to their bodies. sometimes that includes racialised features. this is different from "race" the socially realised construct. be conscious of the differences and think about how you talk about them.

A lot of people write Kris texting as a shit-eating irony poisoned teen who uses the minimum words possible, and that's fine and all.

But what if Kris types normally online, maybe even over-enthusiastically, because just like a lot of autistic children who are treated as "cold" and "monotone," Kris is just better at expressing themselves online than they are in person.

I don't think we've been super active here recently especially with the comic,

it's mostly because it's only been me and Kris fronting for a majority of the time and when anyone else does it's been really difficult to figure out who they are.

we think that kris may be some kind of gatekeeper but it's not really on purpose. they just really could not stand how loud everything was in here.
