“awww but come on, i can’t help it.” luz clasps their hands underneath their chin, blinking her eyes at king. “you’re just the absolute cutest tyrant in all the land. i have to look at you like you’re adorable.” and before he can protest, she’s scooping him up in their arms and pressing several kisses all over his face.

CUTE and TYRANNY did not go together !  Why could this human not figure that out !?   “ THAT’S NOT a COMPLIMENT ! ”   he practically yells as kisses are pressed to his skull against his will. But, there’s nothing he can do about it   ( curse this tiny form ! )   — and, he supposes the attention isn’t ALL that bad...even if a little more GUSHY than he’d prefer... so he finally gives in, grumbling,   “ Fine, I’m ADORABLE... ”

“I doubt it,” He spat, quick to judge, but upon looking back at the creature, there was no mistaking the sadness in its eyes. Hugging his knees to his chest, Hunter’s eyebrows knit together in frustration.

“I don’t have anyone that cares about me…” He spoke, his voice muffled slightly by his arms. “There’s a possibility that I’m not even real. Can’t care for something that shouldn’t exist in the first place.”

King looks at the other with skepticism — maybe he really was that stupid after all. And who would’ve thought it’d be up to KING to knock some sense into the kid?   “ REALLY ?  Because I know of a certain human who never gives up on ANYONE. ”   ... Even when it would probably be beneficial at times.

He inches a bit closer on all fours.   ( What was it that Luz said to him back on the beach? )   He sighs, glancing away briefly, only because of how mushy it was,   “ You might’ve been alone before, but you have us now. ”

A frustrated noise bubbled up in Hunter’s throat, looking away from the creature for a moment. He thought his hygiene was pretty good… or maybe that was just something else that he failed at without knowing. He wouldn’t be surprised at this point.

“No! I’m not okay!” He yelled, hands clenching the fabric of his pants while glaring. “I’m so far from okay! I-I…” Shaking his head, Hunter’s eyes squeezed shut, feeling them stinging with tears. “I don’t know anything anymore.”

“ I, uh... Know the feeling, actually, ”   King looks down at the ground. He remembers, too, how stupid he felt, in hindsight...how world-shattering it was.. Sometimes, he’s still not sure if he actually likes conquering kingdoms or if he just thought he was supposed to.   “ But you know how I got better? I have Eda and Luz, ”   he glances back at the boy.   “ You should be with the people who actually care about you. Not out in here in the forest, alone. ”   ( He’s not 100% sure the Palisman counts. )

“ YEAH, that’s the POINT ! ”   King complains, looking over this human who, for some reason, didn’t seem to get it. Was the human realm always this BORING?   “ SHEESH, what do you humans even do for fun these days? ”   he asks, ignoring the fact he didn’t really know all that much about humans in the first place.

“ Don’t laugh at Francois ! ”   eyes narrow at Lilith, his arm tightening around the bunny plush in his possession and covering the rabbit’s ears with his other paw. After he had to explain how he wasn’t actually the KING OF DEMONS to his top lieutenant and disbanding his army of darkness, Francois and the other stuffed animals had been...leaning more into the other sides of their personality.  “ He’s SENSITIVE. ”

The demon on four legs latched onto the scent pretty quickly: a hint of citrus masked by TEEN ANGST — so much so it would be hard to miss. 

He sits on the ground — not too close, but not too far away, either.   “ You know GOBLINS are notoriously bad at bathing, right? ... ON SECOND THOUGHT, maybe you’d fit right in, ”   King says, even a bit lightheartedly — surprising when he was still just a little BITTER about being called a RAT. Claws nervously clinking together, debating if it was stupid to ask, but decides he should do it anyway,   “ Uh...are you...okay...though? ”   ( Even though he knew he wasn’t the KING OF DEMONS, it still wasn’t a side he liked to show off to just anyone. )

          Luz’s family always seemed to be up to something, a stark contrast to hers. But, maybe that was the reason why she kept visiting (asides from seeing her girlfriend). Perhaps it excited her that their lives were far more interesting to dive into compared to hers.

This, however, didn’t mean she agreed with everything that they did.

“  Aren’t you worried you’re going to get caught?  ” she asked, brows scrunched. “  Luz wouldn’t appreciate this—I mean, what is this for, anyway?  ” Knowing King, it couldn’t be anything too hazardous (hopefully).

King chuckles at the mere idea of getting caught.   ( ... more like a giggle, but he won’t admit that ! )   “ EH !  I can’t RUIN the SURPRISE — ”   he jests. Not that it was much of a surprise to begin with, but the demon liked his DRAMATIC REVEALS, regardless. Besides, why did everyone always assume the WORST in him?   ( Okay, maybe there were justified. )

“ YOU KNOW, if we had a snail for every time we were threatened with being sent to the Conformatorium, we’d have... ”   he tries to count on his claws, but realizes he’ll run out pretty quickly,   “ WELL — let’s just say we’d have A LOT of snails. ”

King snuggles in nicely to his new spot in her hood, front paws and chin resting on her shoulder...and more or less using her hair as a blanket. Now, he just needed a pillow ... WHAT ?! It was far past his BEDTIME — which in his opinion, should be most of the time, actually.

“ Looks like the same desolation and despair to me, ”   he yawns as he glances around, at least trying to keep his eyes open.

“Since wh–? It’s always mattered!” He sputtered, caught off guard by the sheer audacity of the creature. Groaning, Hunter facepalmed his mask. “Carrying fireworks in town is enough of a crime to get you sent to the local station. Setting them off in a playground is grounds for sending you to the Conformatorium!”

“ The snotty-nosed heathens seem to like it! ”   King complains as he points at the children enjoying the display, as if that was a good enough reason to get out of breaking the law. The fireworks themselves were illegal, setting them off was illegal...WHY WAS EVERYTHING FUN ILLEGAL ?  Paws land on his hips, looking down at the Golden Guard from a top   his throne   the playground,   “ Your silly laws are pointless and ineffective. ”
