Berserk — “We Are Mortal And Fragile”
From George Berkeley’s Siris
People are afraid of looking into themselves. Many tremble slavishly when they can no longer escape the questions: What have I done, what have I become, and who am I?
Friedrich Schleiermacher Monologue II: Self-Examination (via sisyphean-revolt)
“I have always observed that to succeed in the world one should appear like a fool but be wise.” – Montesquieu, Pensées
“Silence is true wisdom’s best reply.” – Euripides, Unidentified Plays, Fragment 977
My idea is that every specific body strives to become master over all space, extend its will to power, and thrust back all that resists its extension, but it continually encounters similar efforts on the part of other bodies and ends by coming to an arrangement with those of them that are sufficiently related to it: thus they then conspire together for power.
F. Nietzsche, The Will to Power, §636 (edited excerpt). (via rosscmpbll)

Felicia Forte for Red Bull House of Art Detroit.
A look at Detroit, Michigan based artist Felicia Forte’s beautiful artwork that she created during her three month residency at Red Bull House of Art Detroit, the culmination of which was presented in an absolutely astonishing group exhibition alongside fellow residency artists Jose Mertz and Steve Kim, which opened on July 28th and is currently on view at the House of Art in Detroit until September 3rd, 2017. (More on this soon!)
“My body of work,” Felicia explains in her artist statement, “is a visual journal, some accounts are pivotal others are simple. I work to present these vulnerable moments with economy of action and integrity of personal expression. I enjoy searching for the moment in a painting when the most truth of a subject meets the least amount of brush strokes. It’s this truth and simplicity that allow the viewer to connect, ultimately relating my work with their own experiences.”
