The futuristic SCREECH of the sliding door faded as a taloned-foot stepped onto white tile, into the laboratory as the King peered through the dimly-lit place. Asgore cared very little for boundaries, and typically barged in anywhere he chose, it wasn’t as if anyone could deny him. Claws clicked against the floor as he approached the tinier monster, mind quietly swimming with idle thoughts.
Despite his dreaded resting-bitch-face that could send anxiety through just about anybody, the King was rather tame at the moment. No threats or bellowing, no tantrums or assaults. The Monarch’s mood was tired and inconvenienced, if nothing else.
Bringing himself to focus on the Royal Scientist, his majesty quietly ‘tsked’. Alphy’s was.. well, an odd little thing- when he first met her anyhow.. Indeed, her accomplishment of creating an artificial soul had impressed him, there was no question about it- she was brilliant. And although he was still hesitant on replacing his former Royal Scientist even after his demise, he couldn’t think of anyone with even half the brain needed for the position. Still, many questioned just how a ‘sweet little thing’ like her managed to get through the LION’S den unscathed….
❝ Yes, Doctor… I hope that isn’t an issue?❞
Without waiting for an answer, he continued. If there WAS an issue, there’d be THE DEVIL to pay, even when he was in a ‘good’ mood.
❝ I’m sure we’d all LOVE to get out of this Hell-hole as swiftly as possible, no?❞

Alphys gives a sugar coated smile, gently clasping her tiny claws together in front of her.
“Yes, of course. No problem at all I assure you, your royal highness.”
The tiny thing giggles. She had no reason to ever want to leave. She’d turned this hellhole into a playground for one. A tiny paradise where she could do as she pleased. She had secured herself a high position, a cushy one at that. A facade of innocence kept suspicion off of her. Alphys could do anything she pleased.
The only inconvenience she found, was the king himself. She stepped carefully, as if walking around glass. Avoiding any switch that may sending him into rage. His continued hunt for a way to destroy the barrier, it bored Alphys. She could never say such a thing, as it was the research assigned to her. There were so many more interesting things to discover, far more interesting than Asgore’s goal.
She shuffles through papers littering her desk. Missing posters, scribbled notes on citizens, sloppily written coding. Finally she pulls a crumpled stack of notes out of her mess, a few papers stapled together. They had nothing to do with research on breaking the barrier, but on the soul of a monster. They were personal notes, but they should suffice.
“I hit a small snag, but I believe I’ve found an answer so we will not have to wait for another human soul. You see, I believe it may be possible... to perhaps use a small sacrifice of monsters to-”
Alphys pauses, turning to look up at him with round eyes. He towered over her, but she remained calm. Pulling a tiny, restrained frown. She was kind, sweet, innocent. She must look like she was against the idea she was about to suggest.
“Artificially create a SOUL as strong as a human’s.”
