interesting....
Does anyone want to play with the Most Exalted Bassist with me.
He is ignored by every other character during the show. Sylvia doesn't interact with him at all, the Secretary wants nothing to do with him, the Clerk really doesn't care for him. Signifying that he feels forgettable, like everybody else has something to hold on to, a part of the industry that is specifically choosing them to hurt, the Bassist is so forgettable and meaningless that the only pressure that is closing in on him is the Circumstances of what's happening, and the pain he inflicts upon himself.
Alternatively. They don't need to choose anyone to hurt him because watching them tear his brother limb from limb and brainwash them and mindbreak them into a shell of their former self is enough to keep him well in line. Plus, he's so pumped full of drugs that they're not even sure how he's performing every night. The doses are obviously high for everyone, but his are disturbingly high. Nobody is even really sure how he's still alive, much less playing his bass.

the best ever rendition of the used's "the worst I've ever been" was actually performed in the driver's seat of a car by a mother of 5 with a useless husband who's feeling the pressure on all sides from every person in her life depending on her and not appreciating how far she goes for them, while on her way to pick up her kids from school. she was feeling and embracing the spirit of that song more truly than bert mccracken when he was singing it and thus created something more magical in those 3 minutes of singing and screaming along to the radio than anything in the studio album toxic positivity.
