Hi all! Amber speaking! I still have my Deviant Art, and I've been posting my art here as well lately. BUT! I recently made a second account here!

It's a Poppy Playtime AU Blog! Back on Deviant Art I adopted an AU idea from another artist @blazestar-the-elemental-wolf and I've been making a lot of art for it lately, but I wanted to make something dedicated to just that AU. So I made this secondary blog just for that!

I’ve been wanting to make OCs for @pshattuck’s Hallows universe for a LONG while, but I never did because 1) I didn’t know if she’d be ok with it 2) I couldn’t come up with a solid idea of what said OCs would be. . . . . . Until recently. Robin and Lenore Windstep are a Fairy couple with 4 teenage daughters; Lucia, Aurora, Magna and Bella. They figured they’d have more children when they’re youngest daughter Bella was ready to leave the nest, but those plans changed when they heard news of a village being attacked by monsters. Lenore, being an adventurer, went over to offer support to any survivors and get rid of any lingering monsters. While there she met a young Satyr girl named Dafni, who Lenore learned had recently become an orphan due to the monster attack. After the couple talked it out and discussed things with their daughters, the Windstep family decided to adopt Dafni. Dafni now lives with the Windsteps in the Hallows, adjusting to her new home and working through the trauma of losing one family and gaining a new one so suddenly. Perhaps a certain kitten could help with that?

Plot Twist Ideas!!

⋆.𐙚 ̊ The mentor who trained the hero turns out to have trained the villain first, and taught them the exact same lessons.

Advice for writing Characters with Anxiety or PTSD!!

it's not just "worrying a lot" or one dramatic flashback scene. anxiety can be constant background noise, or it can hit in sudden physical waves, racing heart, nausea, feeling weirdly detached from your own body. PTSD is the nervous system staying on high alert long after the actual danger's gone. ask what the specific triggers and symptoms are before you write it, bc generalized anxiety and trauma-based PTSD work in genuinely different ways.

⤷ panic attacks are physical, not just emotional. chest tightness, dizziness, tingling hands, a feeling like you're dying or completely detached from reality. a character having one for the first few times might genuinely think something is medically wrong with them, not just "oh no i'm scared." it's not just breathing fast and looking spooked, it's the body convinced it's under attack.

⤷ triggers are rarely obvious or dramatic. a specific smell, a certain tone of voice, a particular time of day, fluorescent lighting. trauma responses often get triggered by mundane sensory details that seem to have nothing to do with the original event on the surface, and the character themselves might not even understand why they just shut down. don't limit your triggers to "seeing something that looks exactly like what happened," the brain makes connections that don't have to make sense to anyone watching from outside.

⤷ hypervigilance is exhausting and constant, not a dramatic beat. a character with PTSD might automatically scan every room for exits the second they walk in, sit facing the door out of habit, flinch at sudden movement or noise. this isn't them having A Moment, it's background behavior they've stopped even noticing themselves, bc it's just how their body operates now.

⤷ avoidance isn't cowardice, it's self-protection. a character refusing to talk about something, changing the subject, leaving the room, that's not necessarily weak-willed. avoidance is often the nervous system's own attempt to prevent a flashback or a panic response before it starts. writing forced confrontation as the only real path to healing is a common trope, but it's not actually how most healing works.

⤷ recovery isn't linear and doesn't end with one cathartic scene. a character can do real, genuine trauma work and still have a bad week months or even years later. writing healing as a single breakthrough moment after which the anxiety or PTSD is just "resolved" undersells how long and nonlinear this process actually is for most people, and honestly can make readers who are living through it feel like something's wrong with them for not being "fixed" already.

do the research, and if you can, read firsthand accounts from people who've actually lived through this rather than just other fiction that's already gotten it wrong.

(quick note bc this is a heavier topic: if any of this is hitting close to home for you personally, i hope you have people or resources around you to lean on. you don't have to carry it alone.)

Freesia and Yewl

Yewl is a illager who was born in a plain village but lives on the outskirts of that village with their mother. A very quiet child who hasn’t uttered a word to anyone but they are definitely not shy they’ll let you know exactly how they feel. Is insanely strong for their age(Probably has something to do with their weird genetics) they love being outside(tho they are fairly sensitive to sunlight) and being active they keep themselves busy by helping around the village They can often be found hanging out with the fletcher, he has been helping them learn how to use a bow. Growing up in the village caused the other villagers to not be frightened of them despite being a illager because they’ll be “raised properly and not like a Barbarin” or something like that.

Freesia is a shepherd and she chooses to live outside the village by choice, there isn’t enough space in the village to tend to a group of sheep comfortably. Shes very patient and caring but not necessarily great mother material. She’s very scattered brained and Airhead, definitely didn’t know what she was getting into when she decided to carry through her pregnancy. She lets them do whatever they want, spoiling them terribly. “If they want it they can have it” kinda treating them like a mini friend that she just so happens to take care of. She doesn’t scold them for bad behavior because in her eyes they do no wrong and it’s just a cute child thing they mean no harm. That’s why she undermines their growing taste for violence which will probably backfire in the long run. Other than that she loves that kid to bits and is trying her best.😅
