Honestly, Ruby felt disgusting with sweat and water mixture. It made his clothes stick to him. His arm dropped and he just had both hands on his hips, giving the brunette girl a cheerful smile. “Ah, sorry, habits are hard to break, you know?” his voice showed absolutely no sign of an apology. “It’s absolutely wonderful to see you, sweetie!” he fanned himself with his hand, even though it did nothing to help the heat.
"What’re you doing here? I haven’t seen you around in so long, ha ha!"
She really couldn’t be ticked off at him for long. His demeanor was just too enjoyable. May looked right at his silly grin as she answered his question.
"I’m here to find out what’s trendy! Everyone here seems to know!" she said, the beginnings of a laugh peeking out behind her words. It burst through, the sound bubbling on her voice.
"Just kidding! I was planning on seeing Brawly, ‘cause he knows about some stuff I need advice for." May fidgeted slightly when she finished the sentence, hoping it didn’t sound odd. It was kind of tough to say that she wanted help with her outlook, since Brawly seemed to have a good one.
Hopefully Ruby wouldn’t be too harsh about it.
"Brawly? The gym leader? Ah, Sapp—- May, May, May, you cute little girl you, you shouldn’t be battling!" he scolded, waggling his finger at her before poking her nose gently.
"You should be participating in contests, alongside me and winning ribbons for your Pokemon." his views were obvious, Ruby hated battling still, even though he was pretty aware that influential people to him and the Association knew he was a talented fighter.
He offered his hand to the brunette and bowed slightly, wiggling his fingers, waiting for her to take his hand so they could start walking. “I think we should do something before you go see Mr. Tough Guy, okay?”
May wanted to sigh at him but kept it internal as she said, “Alright, Ruby. I’ll go with you this time.” She took his outstretched hand and gently wrapped her fingers around his. The corners of her mouth started to move up, daring her to give into a smile.
"I’m not going to do any contests though. Not today, at least," she stated matter-of-factly. She looked him right in the eye when she said this, waiting for his response. Her gaze was steady, indicating her obstinate nature for the issue.
"You mean, eventually, you will do a contest with me?" the teen practically skipped with May, tugging her hand along before slowing into a walk and just keeping her hand at their sides, moving it back and forth between them.
"But today, I think we should go swimming at the beach since it’s so ungodly hot out, how does that sound to you?" Ruby suggested, wiping at the thin layer of sweat already forming on his brow. Ugh. Summer days were the worst.
"I suppose, but don't count on it," she replied stiffly, keeping along with his pace. She walked steadily when he slowed down, maintaining an uncharacteristically reserved attitude.
"About the contests, that is. It's a good idea to get out of this awful heat for awhile." May enjoyed the summer, but the high temperature was starting to get on her nerves. She didn't want to seem like Ruby was getting on them too. "Let's go, then."
