Notes On A Scene

This is the most important scene when it comes to Robby and Tory’s dynamic.

I’ve talked abt them before. The thing with Tory is that she is stuck in the cycle of giving out what she receives. She is used to people looking down on her and assuming the worst of her so she is always ready to hit back without really thinking, always aggressive.

Robby’s thing is that he becomes whatever he needs to to survive — from running scams so he can have food to allowing bullying of himself so he doesn’t get his face busted in another locker.

Coming to the scene, it’s interesting that she SEEKS him while he is minding his business. What she wants to do is ask how he is doing since their run in at the parole office. But Tory being Tory, cannot help her snappy way of speaking. And Robby being Robby, simply answers the question.

Visually, she is in the dominant position at the moment, with him having to look up to her. And she exercises it some more, wanting to see how far she can push before he, too, hits back at her like everyone else does. So she taunts him abt his juvie stint. She may not realize but we saw what a painful experience it was for him. What she wants to tell him is how bad running away was/would be for him, but can’t help phrasing it as a snide remark.

At this, he stands up.

Now they are face to face i.e., equals. She anticipates him hitting back, dares him even. In a way that is ‘I won’t tread back on what I said, you are welcome to call me b*tch like everyone else does.’ But he doesn’t, he is just concerned abt defending himself (surviving and getting by + Miyagi Do) than commenting on her. She nods, now understanding how he operates.

That she can tease or taunt him and he wouldn’t snap back at her. And if that’s the case, then maybe she can also open up to him and he won’t judge her. And so she immediately opens up to him, telling him how much she hates herself for what happened, advising him on how he can use his anger instead of bottling it up like he is currently doing. And she invites him to Cobra Kai’s hangout, again phrasing it as a taunt which he also doesn’t respond to.

I believe this is why their relationship works and we continue to see this in their dynamic going forward. She enquires after him disguised as a taunt and he always just answers the question with no additional comment abt her taunt, her or ANYTHING for that matter. So much so that he doesn’t even ask why her day was crappy because she doesn’t like personal questions and he respects that too.

It all started with this scene, all because Robby didn’t snap back at her like everyone else does. Kindness may be his weakness, but it is also such a ripple effect. He is kind to her, and in turn earns her care as she goes out of her way to look out for him, which is saying something for her.

the way the entirety of robby’s stay at cobra kai was spent in tory’s company. spar-partners, sat together at movies, him immediately going to talk to her when she gets to the dojo, and it was like that the whole time.

Gilgamesh was such a big softie, with his cute "kiss the cook" apron and a heart of gold. He was a genuinely good person and one of the sweetest among the other eternals. The fact that he choose to take care of Thena for centuries, and told her he would do it all over again in any other planet or lifetime....he deserved so much better god i just [sobbing]

‘“I’d prefer a pair of sable-lined swimming trunks, but we can’t always get what we want” A furrow appeared between Kuwei’s brows. His understanding of Kerch had apparently been reached and surpassed’

Matthias thinking they should just let Nina and Jesper flirt the entirety of Ketterdam into submission

That MASTERPIECE of a scene where Jesper and Kaz have a random petty fistfight, and all the other crows literally move out of the way, and then when Wylan tries to get someone to stop them they just shrug and go ‘I mean they aren’t using their weapons let them fight it out’ and THEN Colm coming him and scolding them and both of them IMMEDIATELY stopping

Wylan and Kaz falling through the ceiling onto Van Eck’s dinner party will ALWAYS be iconic

Kaz’s chapters in general are absolutely HILARIOUS, but my personal favorite is when he’s depending on Matthias Not Betraying them, and he thinks something like this:

‘Either he was right and Matthias’ feeling for Nina would prove enough, or Kaz was about to pay for all those talking tree jokes’

‘His first thought was that this boy had the most beautiful lips he’d ever seen, and his second was that he was probably about to die’ Wylan honey we’ve got to talk about your priorities

That scene at the start of Six of Crows where Van Eck has Kaz tied to a chair and is explaining what he needs, and then is explaining why he needs Kaz specifically, talking about how his De Kappel painting was stolen which is a really impressive feat, while Kaz is vehemently denying that he had anything to do with it although it was obviously him

Wylan being passive aggressive while Jesper is trailing after him trying to apologize for the Kuwei thing

“Can’t we just enter as performers? I hear Wylan really kills it on the flute”

Inej getting Nina’s cookie jar after she gets back and Jesper being offended that he didn’t get to take some

remembered xmen blue + am reminiscing abt the way erik and lornas relationship used to be presented......

current/xfactor/trial erik acts like he's had a long history of being this overbearing + demanding father. past eriks acted (fittingly!!!) like a reconnecting absent father. one that knows they have no room to demand anything of their child + treats them as the adult they are.

he's conscious of the ways that they're very alike, and considers her an equal. he expects her to challenge him, and he welcomes that
