It wasn't supposed to go like this.

They were supposed to sign a lease for a shared apartment on Wednesday; celebrate one year together on Saturday, load up a U-Haul, then put Shockwave in a shark costume and give candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween for the last night in the townhouse, have pictures in a frame on the wall, and records playing, and come home to each other-

"Al, the cameras-" Vincent's voice breaks, and he can't undo this; can't cover it up; can't fix it. All he can do is pull Alastor off the body, look at the blood pooling, turning sandy blonde hair crimson-- he'd been ready to kill Topher; wouldn't have thought twice about it, but it had happened too fast- It wasn't supposed to go like this. "We've gotta-" Do what? What is there to do? They're fucked. They're on fucking camera, and they need to get away from here-

Then Alastor turns to him, and there are tears rolling down his cheeks, mixing with the specks of blood on his skin. Everything goes still and the man just... gazes at Vincent. And Vincent gazes back. What else can he do?

"I'm sorry, darling." Alastor whispers, and then there is pain.
