Hello, everyone! I'm Marh! I've been into self shipping and canon/oc for some years now, moved tumblrs a lot because of personal reasons then ended up committing and making a main self ship blog because I wanted to use this as my chance to unwind when fandom drama in any of the other fandoms I'm in are too much.

I like fairy lore, Philippine culture/history/mythology/folklore and I enjoy chatting with others even if don't respond for a while. (If I do, that's really just cause I am swamped with work but I will try to reply)

I'm hoping to make more fandom friends and also to reform bonds and a sense of community that I missed, lost and some I didn't have.

Opera Night

This was meant to be part of my Barricade Day artwork but since I missed it then I just stuck to keeping this a simple sketch

Basically, when Courfeyrac had wanted to thank Donia for caring for Gavroche, he invited her to watch an opera with him. But since I hc that he was part of the aristocracy but disowned himself from his own family, that means he knows Donia's way of dressing in the traje de mestiza would be looked down upon.

So he offered to buy her an opera gown.

Donia however, was raised by rather forward thinking parents and protected and loved by her older brothers. So she agreed to his offer on the condition that it will be him who will wear Filipino fashion.

So here's Donia wearing the opera gown that Courfeyrac bought and Courfeyrac wearing one of Donia's older brothers' barong.

NGL doing a sketch was nice it was actually relaxing maybe I should keep doing sketches if I can't do full pieces iserugsfu also I do miss my flats qwq

Barricade Day 2026

I have two other barricade day posts but I haven't finished them in time so it'll just follow iudfgdufg

Anyway, I always loved the idea of Mercedes (@atheneum-of-ardour) and Donia going to the Philippines and the two spending time together there. So I'm just imagining them playing around at an opera or something before the show starts xdufgisdrugseiu

Going through the Trese animated series and I wish that they casted a VA that had a less obvious posh accent for the youngest Trese child (don't hate me Liza Soberano just left much to be desired 😭)

As someone who grew up recognising the santelmo lore just know they're not helpful

Also that it's a demonstration of Tala's light

So the light started out as the little balls of light that Tala (goddess of the stars) sends to the lost as they are meant to guide you home

Upon the Spaniards' arrival they dubbed it as Santelmo claiming it will get you lost and take you to a place where you'd die

I won't comment on the babaylan aspect as I only know precolonial roles of the babaylans but the ones in tribes who performs the sword dances, performs the chants, etc to this day I don't know their ways

But I do like the usage of the MRT ngl I keep forgetting if it crosses past rivers but precolonial Tagalog people believed that in death a great crocodile will help us cross over to the afterlife so like low-key a nod

What I am side eyeing is that Emissary here seems to be wearing Spanish colonial inspired fashion

Also IDK which pantheon Trese is using cause when I read Tales of the Diabolical it is nodding to the Cebuano/Visayan/Bisaya pantheon but I always do agree with my bby sister that we could believe ALL pantheons exist and tends to their believers as they come and go so I'm gonna believe the Pangasinense/Kapampangan/Bikolano/Tagalog pantheons are also vibing, Trese just most likely communes with specific deities who first reached out to her

But I'm now in Ep 4 and uh care to explain why I noticed a majority of the good guys minus Hank Sparrow are pale skinned?

Let's play a game! Which of these characters is the good cop!!

A majority of us are brown here sa Pinas, the friendliest and kindest folks I speak to have deep brown skin cause they work and toil under the sun

Y'all I'm not saying light skinned Filipinos don't exist but I need more brown skinned Filipino rep for major characters or mains (no Raya will not count that movie was a Trainwreck and a disrespect to SEA culture)

Oh nooooo the brown skinned Filipino is resentful of the cops so he caused the zombie apocalypse

I'm tired y'all the colourism is awful

I'm saying that cause I was legit bullied for being brown in this damn country, called a maligno and aswang (that is NOT a good thing, the aswangs are terrible creatures in our actual mythos) seen as poor and dirty and that left me really damaged

Am I the only one who got *really* irritated by some of Harding's banters with Emmrich? I know she probably means well, but my goodness.

This line in particular grinds my gears. She's basically insulting Emmrich's home, his job and his life in one fell swoop.

"Un-life"? 😭 The man is a world-renowned professor! He has a skeleton son and seems to be well-liked around the Necropolis. There's no indication that Emmrich was unhappy with his life before meeting Rook; on the contrary.

And don't get me started on the sheer hypocrisy of her harping on and on about Emmrook's age difference, when she ends up dating Taash who is AT LEAST ten years younger (probably closer to 15 if Harding was in her mid twenties in DAI).

Not that I care about age gaps, to be clear, but the hypocrisy is astounding.
