Wandering Soul || Aaron + Tris
Tris quickly glanced at the man who’d just jumped from the tree, almost letting out a sigh of relief. A few months, maybe weeks later, she wouldn’t really like to need somebody’s help—normally, she was the one who helped everyone—, but now she felt relieved. Alone, tired and weak after almost two days without any food except for two apples, she would have had no chance against the walkers.
She took a moment to catch her breath, and nodded when he asked if she was okay. A walker—that probably had been attracted by the noise or the smell—approached from behind, and Tris felt its hand gripping her arm. Instinctively, she jumped, turning around and twisting the dagger in her hands to stab it in the head. The blood of the walker dripped down her hand and arm, and she pulled the dagger out of its head with a tug.
The dark-eyed woman moved her gaze to the stranger as he stabbed another walker in the eye. Narrowing her eyes, she noticed the weapon he was using was a kitchen knife. Better than nothing, sure, but, after living with a family with a dagger collection for years, Tris knew it wasn’t nearly as effective as a knife proper for fighting.
She immediately shook her head as he told her to run. She knew that she was in no condition to fight, but she didn’t like the idea of leaving him there to fight ten walkers alone with a kitchen knife. It didn’t matter if she barely knew him—she would feel guilty if he ended up dying while trying to save her. “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Tris replied. Still, she slowly walked a couple steps back, just in case she had no choice but to actually run. “Hey,” she called and handed him the dagger in her hand, while the other hand moved to her pocket and picked up the small knife she kept there for emergencies. Her eyes never left the group of walkers.
They were getting closer now, the sound of their footsteps and twigs snapping getting louder. She walked a few more steps back. “Come on, we gotta run,” she said to the man. If they were smart, maybe they could find a good place in the woods to hide and outwit the bitters.
Aaron was not usually in the habit of befriending strangers, and he knew that any interactions- with human or walker- were a risk, a potential hazard, something to be wary of. He watched the blood run down the woman's arm, wondering how many times she had felt that happen after a kill. Killing was wrong, but in this world it was necessary. It was tragic, but realistic.
The man wanted to save her life, since he reminded her somewhat of his sisters, and it felt like a responsibility to do so. She had given him her own dagger, something that a person wouldn't give away lightly in this time of war-- for that's what it was. It was war outright, a truly horrific time for any soul and those he held dear. Aaron accepted the weapon, even more determined now than ever to protect the woman, and make his way to somewhere safer. He would gladly put his own life on the line if to save another human being.
With a small smile that meant 'we can do this', although he never said a word out loud, Aaron slashed through the heads of two more walkers before nodding briskly at the dark-haired girl and begin to run. With the hand that wasn't holding the dagger, Aaron re-adjusted his pack and then grabbed the woman by the arm, sliding it down to her wrist. Picking up his pace, Aaron aimed to head for the trees opposite,
A vast expanse of woods lay ahead, tall trees with not much bracken or brush on the ground. The leaves were still green, yet some had fallen, and Aaron knew that if only they could camouflage themselves somewhere high up, that perhaps they wouldn't be spotted. He was still quite fit, and could outrun the walkers for a couple of miles, but he'd soon tire out. It was more effective to find a hiding spot and wait them out. "Look for a hiding place," Aaron said the his new friend. The higher, the better. Trees are our friends, I've found that out recently. Safety, camouflage and quite often there's food. If we live through this, remind me to thank you," he said to her holding up the dagger that had potentially just saved his life.
Heavens Above || Aaron & Alaska
She noticed how he kept his voice low and looked around, soon discovering the reason. Far to the other side of the field some walkers roamed around, but it wasn’t dangerous yet. Alaska looked back up at him, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. ‘I’m Alaska. You?’ She smirked. ‘I never thought I’d meet new people like this.’ Suddenly her stomach started growling loudly and she wrapped her arms around it, a little embarrassed. ‘Sorry for that.’
"Well, Alaska. Nice to meet you, I guess. As long as you aren't bitten. You haven't got bit have you?" Aaron asked in a rushed voice, slightly on edge. "I'm, uh, I'm Aaron, anyway," he continued. "Listen, you sound hungry, amiright? How about we go find somewhere a little safer to go eat something, and we can make sure that neither of us are bitten. The last thing either of us wants is to run into a stranger and then realise they're turning right before our eyes. Better to be safe than sorry, huh?"

It surprised Alaska how fast it cooled down. She pulled her hat over her forehead and buried her hands deep in her pockets. Between the trees she saw a large field with a tractor in the middle. She squinted her eyes, trying to see what was laying on top of it. Getting closer she heard a voice. ‘What…’ It took her a few moments to realize it came from whatever it was on the large vehicle. ‘Um… Hello? I’m not looking for trouble’ The blonde raised her hands in front of her, to make clear she didn’t have any bad intentions.
Aaron got out of his sleeping bag and pulled on his sweater, looking down at the girl. "Oh... Hi," he said softly, so as not to attract any walkers with his voice. "That's okay, I'm not out to find any trouble either." Aaron was running low on food, but if this girl was hungry he'd share with her. He'd always felt the need to protect others. "What's your name?"

Looking up at the clear blue sky, Aaron appreciated the quiet around him. He had secured the area; there were no walkers in the whole field, and he felt safe sitting on the roof of an abandoned tractor. He fell asleep in the pale December sunshine, and woke up several hours later, freezing cold, to a noise on the ground below.
"Hello? Is someone there?"

Quick note: going out to take a hike at night in the middle of the zombie apocalypse was definitely not a good idea.
Unfortunately, Tris only found out about that in the hard way. She wasn’t stupid—she knew that keep going out at every two seconds, specially at night, wasn’t something a person in their normal mental sanity would do in the apocalypse, but she had to admit she liked the adventure. Going out, travelling; she liked it because it was always a good way to distract herself, keep her mind busy so she wouldn’t have to think about all the people she’d lost, about the dark memories of her past.
Not mentioning she was used to that; to go out at night. She liked her midnight walks, even after the people that walked in the streets next to her were replaced for those undead, mindless beings. Sometimes she would get in trouble, but nothing so serious.
Now, the dark-haired woman ran to the direction of the woods, because it was the only way without any walkers. A group of about ten or more of them chased her. She’d taken two of them down with her dagger. Her knuckles were white after holding onto the hilt so tight. When she was way too tired to keep running, she turned around to face them, slowly walking backwards. Through the groans of the walkers, she heard something moving above her. Sure, it could be just an animal, or even another walker trapped in the tree, but she couldn’t help but internally begging it was a living person. “A-anyone there?” she asked, slowly walking backwards with the knife still raised in the direction of the biters. She’d taken small groups of walkers down a few times, but she was just too tired to do that alone right now.
The noise, Aaron realised, was a woman. It was the first real human he had seen for quite a while, but he could barely see or hear her through the dark. He could, however, see the walkers approaching all around her. Her voice sounded a little scared, and Aaron knew he had to help her, even against his better judgement. In the fire service, he'd been taught that helping others was necessary to survival.
"Hold on," he called down in a quiet voice. "I'm coming down. I hope you're ready to run." Aaron jumped from the tree, with all of his belongings slung over his shoulder in his large duffel bag. With a kitchen knife in one hand, he pushed a few stray branches out of his way to face the walkers. He was looking at around ten of them, all chomping and gnashing their teeth, like this dark-haired woman was their next three course meal. He cringed a little, and mentally prepared himself to kill them. So far, he'd been fairly adept at avoiding them at all costs and so he'd only killed a maximum of four or five walkers until now. The nearest creature was stumbling a little with its left leg looking a bit broken. Aaron waited until it was taking a step on its left foot, and then lunged for its head. It came clean off in two pieces and rolled to his feet.
"Ugh," he groaned, looking at the rotten flesh. "Are you okay, lady?" he asked her. Without waiting for an answer, Aaron lurched forwards and stabbed a walker through the eye. It took him a few seconds to pry his blade free, but once he had, he realised that he measly kitchen knife wasn't going to cut it for this battle. It just wasn't sharp or strong enough. "Run," he told her, pointing behind her, deeper into the woods.

BACKGROUND, biography
Aaron grew up in a relatively normal home in Chicago, with parents who argued but still loved each other. His younger sisters were his favourite and least favourite people of all, but they were rarely ever apart from each other. While he was in his teenage years, Aaron had a thing for setting fires. He’d burn insects, scorch his name into objects, and would make bonfires in the back yard for no reason. He wasn’t an aggressive or violent person, but there was something about the way the flames burnt hot that he couldn’t resist. Watching something burn was like catharsis for him, and he couldn’t help but admire the beauty of it.
By the time he had finished school, Aaron had learnt to control his urge to burn things down, and instead channel that energy into helping people. Soon enough he was a fire-fighter, and was one of the best on the team. Through his love of the beauty of fire, Aaron learnt about the negative effects, and this enabled him to be one of the best firemen.
When the walkers struck his town, Aaron was putting out a fire in an old lady’s apartment. If it weren’t for his protective suit, he would have been killed instantly by the onslaught of walkers who stumbled in. Luckily, he managed to escape and return to his parents’ home where they and his sisters were hiding out. A call from Aaron’s girlfriend told them that she was trapped and unable to escape, but Aaron didn’t believe it. He ran to her house still in his fireman’s suit and found her dead, being eaten by the walkers. Distraught, he returned to his family who consoled him.
The family packed up what they could and took their RV out of the city as far as they could go. The five of them spent a lot of time in the countryside, until they ran out of food. Aaron and one sister Vivienne went on a hunt for supplies, but little did they know that the family had travelled much, much further than they had originally thought. Having made their way to Georgia, and not knowing the roads, Aaron and Vivienne were lost. They camped out in an old shopping mall for a while, but when walkers attacked they were somehow split up.
Ever since then, Aaron has been trying to find his family again. He’s currently camping in the woods with what little equipment he has left, and finds it hard to talk to people despite how caring he is. He hates killing walkers, but when he does, he gives them a viking’s death on a funeral pyre. He believes the best way to eradicate the virus is to burn it out.
ALIGNMENT: Nomad.

Aaron packed up his tent for what felt like the millionth time. He was lucky to even have a tent, and he told himself that every day, and twice on days when he was travelling. It was a tough road out there, and carrying a tent plus all his supplies was no easy feat by himself. It had been so much easier with his family. It had been almost two weeks since he'd seen his sister, Vivienne, and another few days before that since he'd seen his parents and other sister, Eva. The sun was weak at this time of year, and a chill wind breezed past Aaron's face as he began his journey along the empty road.
Step after step, he was getting closer to... nowhere, really. He had no destination, other than to find somewhere he might be able to settle down in, and wait for his family to come to him. He'd been leaving them a trail to follow if they stumble onto the same route as he had been taking. Dead walker bodies in piles here and there, leading them towards him. If only they were looking for him too.
Before long, it was nightfall, and Aaron knew he needed to rest for a while. He couldn't sleep here, though, in this meadow he had found. It was to exposed and he knew that if he fell asleep, walkers would find their way to him and end his life. That was not how he wanted it to end. If he had to die too soon, Aaron wanted to go out fighting. Perched on a fallen tree, as high up as he could get in the tangle of branches, Aaron looked out into the night and thought about his sisters. He must have nodded off, because all of a sudden, he was being woken by a sound from below him on the ground.
