it's silly because people talk about things they don't know a lot about. I have considered that it might fuel their need to have a voice or be included; however, sometimes you not helping the situation, your just making noise so people get confused. Not saying to stay out of it, I'm saying educate yourself. Don't just blab to attack or argue. Try actually debating and refining your worldview by taking feedback and think about counter arguments.
