Preboot isn’t exempt from the rules laid out in the FAQ

The reboot of Storyshift is a more developed version of the plot that Preboot was planned to have. This has been its main intention and I’ve tried to make that clear repeatedly whenever the topic comes up. However for some reason, people keep thinking the preboot doesn’t need to follow the rules shown in the FAQs. So this post has been made as a reminder to the truth.

The preboot and reboot of Storyshfit are not allowed to have any full fangames made, but fan battles are acceptable as long as they try to accurately represent either iteration. For instance, please avoid altering designs or using inaccurate fanon like human Mettacrit if you plan to use the Storyshift label. You can find the preboot and reboot stories here. There is also an officially curated wiki here. There’s a common misconception that preboot is just a list of roles and designs, but using the preboot designs and altering the lore and story makes a project into a take, which isn’t allowed. Likewise, fundamentally altering the designs but claiming it’s Storyshift is also unacceptable. At that point, please use another name.

There are speculative fan made artworks that try and fill in the blanks for the preboot. These are fine as long as they follow the official lore the best they can and make it clear they are unofficial.

As an aside, many people I’ve seen making these rule breaking preboot takes never actually seem to want to follow the actual changes shown in the preboot, which is confusing to say the least. Why name something after something else that it doesn’t resemble and in fact deliberately tries to be different from?

This point has been reinforced in the FAQ.
