Honestly? Tumblr.
A lot of the people on 4chan will act like unapologetic assholes, but at least they’re not self-righteous about it. And, if shown legitimate proof of something, (based on what I’ve seen) they’ll usually accept it, whereas Tumblr prefers to pass around bogus statistics, and cling to emotional pleas, rather than logic.
4chan often behaves like idiots, but they’re aware that they’re behaving like idiots. That’s the whole point. People go there to be anonymous assholes on purpose. Meanwhile, Tumblr is filled with bullies and rejects that think they’re doing the world a goddamn favor by acting like snide, entitled little shit mongers.
4chan will call you a “faggot” regardless of gender/sexual identity, which appears to be generally understood to the point where no one even gives a shit anymore.
Tumblr becomes irrationally outraged when you somehow don’t already magically know the “preferred pronouns” of someone you hadn’t even heard of before, even when these “pronouns” are complete crocks of shit like “bunself”, or “princesself”. They then become indignant if you don’t fall to your knees and cater to every last one of their demented little demands, and treat them like the extra special little snowflake that they think they are.
4chan fields obvious inflammatory comments with relative ease, simply by dismissing them as stupid, humoring them for a laugh, or ignoring them from the start. When vitriol does happen, at least it’s mostly reserved to two morons having a witless tennis match of words while everyone else goads them on for the sake of entertainment.
Tumblr takes every goddamn thing as though it’s deadly fucking serious, to the point where people are afraid to voice their opinions on their favorite cookies, lest it somehow “offends” someone.
4chan will bust your nuts until you can prove a claim you’ve made.
Tumblr will gladly make viral the “news” that the sky has suddenly turned neon green, and is raining Nickelodeon Gak - if there’s enough of an emotional, impassioned plea to do so. Especially if they claim their “child” or “younger sibling” saw (and was upset by) this “incident”.
If you like something, and express it, 4chan will tell you it’s terrible just to piss you off.
Do this on Tumblr, and someone will claim you’re “oppressing them” simply because they don’t happen to like it. Then, through emotional manipulation, they try to spread the mindset that you’re somehow “scum” just for enjoying something that they don’t.
While I wouldn’t recommend it as a place to go to “have fun”, 4chan has actually become more welcoming than tumblr at this point.
And that’s just fucking sad.
Seriously? Tumblr isn’t perfect but 4chan ain’t a shining beacon of light either.
Being an unrepentant asshole - and proud of it - is better than not realizing you’re an asshole?
I completely understand that you need a thick skin on 4chan and everybody knows it, so any regular on 4chan is really unlikely to be hurt or insulted by anything. Which doesn’t mean 4chan is any kinder than Tumblr, it just means no one gets insulted by it.
Don’t forget when 4chan started a nationwide witch hunt for a suspect of the Boston Marathon bombing who turned out to be the wrong guy. Or the very specific sexual and death threats that drove Anita Sarkeesian from her house. Or that they’re currently threatening Emma Watson with releasing her private photos, solely because she gave a speech to the U.N. about feminism.
You’re saying this is all better than a Tumblr user getting mad at something you said and calling in some other Tumblr friends to make fun of you?
But 4chan knows they’re behaving like idiots. They know the threats aren’t serious. Everyone knows it’s all in good fun and you need to grow a thicker skin. NO YOU DON’T. These threats are serious, are being treated seriously, and are ruining actual non-internet lives.
You’re saying Tumblr prevents you from expressing yourself, while 4chan is literally sending death threats to women who are expressing themselves?
Yes, we are comparing the extremes of 4chan to the extremes of Tumblr. And the extremes of 4chan are far worse than those of Tumblr.
Looks like someone’s in desperate need of a reality check.
Anita Sarkeesian has not only admitted to not even being a gamer (skip to about 12 minutes in), and has been heavily criticized for her misinterpretations of popular games (including the fact that she doesn’t even know the goddamn plots of the games she claims to have played), but she has also failed to produce the videos that she was intended to with the money raked in from her kickstarter (and to top it off, she’s currently asking for even more money, despite there being nothing to suggest that she’s actually using a penny of the original take in the way that was intended). She has been caught stealing gameplay footage from other Youtube users, as well as using others’ artwork without permission. There’s also the fact that she has since admitted to knowing about the existence of 4chan prior to the beginning of her kickstarter, which she had initially denied. There is even reasonable doubt regarding the “death threats” that allegedly drove her from her home (take special note of the timestamps). After all, it’s pretty amazing that she just happened to be on this guy’s page literally seconds after he made these posts, especially when that account was only created in order to MAKE said posts. Plus, why was she logged out at the time of screencapping them? These are also the posts she blamed the majority of her fear on. Anyone with a brain can see that there’s something more than a little fishy going on here. Oh, and there’s also the fact that SHE STANDS TO PROFIT OFF OF ANY AND ALL PUBLICITY RELATED TO HER.
As for 4chan, they have:
Busted a child pornography ring (and also cooperate with the FBI on a regular basis in taking down anyone circulating child pornography).
Were the ones that began trending #justice4daisy over the unfair treatment of rape victim Daisy Coleman
Took down a white supremacist radio host (who was also unapologetically homophobic to boot), leading not only to his arrest, but to the revelation that he was also an FBI informant that was basically let off the hook for spreading racial hatred (at least up until this was revealed by Anonymous). In fact, here you can read the email correspondence between Turner and the FBI.
Sent thousands of cards, gifts, and letters to a 90 year-old WWII veteran’s birthday so he wouldn’t be alone.
Rigged a poll so that a $5000 grant was spent on a homeless shelter instead of new park benches in a Michigan Town.
Organized protection for families of deceased soldiers and Boston Bombing victims funerals being picketed by Westboro Baptist Church
Donated over 9000 meals to a food bank to feed the hungry
Raised over $4400 for charities to provide support services for Rape and Sexual Assault victims (which is $4400 more than any of the so-called “feminists” of tumblr).
Exposed an intentional public health violation and had the perpetrator punished.
Helped out a pet owner down on his luck.
Paid someone’s rent that couldn’t afford it.
Stopped the abuse of a cat named Dusty.
And numerous other endeavors.
Meanwhile, people on tumblr have been:
Circulating false statistics about rape, and then literally becoming enraged when they find out that women aren’t being victimized as much as they were led to believe. Wow, that’s a super-healthy attitudes towards women. These are definitely the people I want standing up for my rights. NOT.
Giving someone’s personal information to a potential rapist. Again - perpetrated by a “feminist”. This has happened TWICE now.
Making up and passing around false stories of sexual assault on children. This, too, has happened at least twice now.
Calling in false bite reports in order to get someone’s domesticated pet taken away and euthanized, simply because they were against the owners having it for a pet.
Constantly trying to hijack tragedies, and try to use them as a political step stool, regardless of the feelings of the families and friends of the deceased (including literally erasing the fact that there were twice as many male victims as female in the Elliot Rodger case, and even claiming they were “accidental” killings , when three of them were his first victims, and were stabbed to death, and despite that Rodger himself expressed a hatred of men, as well as an intent to kill “anyone in sight”). On top of that, his blog was filled with posts about how much he hated full-blooded Asian men.
Someone on here is currently facing jail for pushing razorblades in front of their suicidal sister, and telling her to kill herself for having “straight-passing privilege”.
Here’s someone expressing a desire to find and punch a rape victim in the face, simply because said victim doesn’t vilify all men for what happened to her.
Here’s a teenage girl trying to take the attempted suicide of a little boy, and make it all about her. Mind you, she and her followers are people that perpetrate the exact same kind of bullying that this boy tried to end his life over. And they still continue to do it.
Here are her followers threatening people with death and violence over things as pointless as fandom polls.
People on tumblr were the ones who CAUSED the “raid” on tumblr by trying to “#shutdown4chan”. 4chan became bored after a single night, while tumblr continued crying like babies, and making false claims that people on 4chan were “being arrested by the FBI”.
Meanwhile, the sane people of tumblr mocked the shit out of them for intentionally kicking the hornet’s nest, and then whining when they got stung.
People here and on Twitter had enough of a shit fit over The Fine Young Capitalist’s fundraiser to promote women in gaming that they actually hacked the fundraiser page.
Why? Because 4chan contributed over $23k to it.
So, what have you, or any of the so-called “activists” on tumblr, done for anyone else lately?
Yeah. That’s what I thought. A whole lotta jack and shit.
