MBR-049: Futo “Futo’s Greatest Hits”
*gently stirring*
*wipes dust off eyelids*
“what time is it???”
Welll, looks like we got so #wheeded on 4/20 that we didn’t post this day-of (or even week-of) but behold :: “FUTO’S GREATEST HITS” is out NOW on cassette/digital making this the THIRD consecutive 4/20 album release for Futo - a feat that can really only be accomplished if you… don’t smoke weed. “GREATEST HITS” furthers Patrick Brick’s mastery of his signature electro-acoustic-painpop production that is equal parts ethereal & plain damn fun, while expanding upon the warm, solemn nostalgia of last year’s stellar “I Wish I Had Been Born as the Rain that Forms Rivers that Carve Out Canyons”.
It would be short-sighted to say that this release is “lighter” thematically, it’s just that “I Wish I Had Been Born…” was so thick with longing that “Futo’s Greatest Hits” can’t help but feel like the turning of a new leaf. Even the morbidity of opening track “The Internet Told Me I Have Cancer Again” has a playful bounce to it, before relenting to a hushed acoustic refrain about dreaming of old pets at your backdoor (Dog Dreams anyone? no?)
In the months leading up to this release, I’d periodically check in with Patrick to ask how the album was coming. One day it would be “I don’t think I can write another album after this” (see: title track “Greatest Hits” where he contemplates retirement) and the next, “I actually wrote a couple songs this week, we’re up to 7 tracks, I think I’m gonna make it for the 4/20 release.” Each time I tried to reassure Patrick that, you know, you don’t have to put out an album every 4/20, if you need more time that’s natural and doesn’t mean your writing career is over. Albums can take 2 years, you know. Etc.
“I would consider that a colossal failure, not having an album out every year.”
Then more power to you, pat. Happy 420 ~forever~

Did I mention I released a new album today?
Here’s another lil instrumental track from my new side project. This one was made from the water temple music from Zelda slowed down, some Allen Ginsberg readings, and a little of the razzle dazzle.
sorry to do this but this is an absolute classic image
Decided to start a little side project for my instrumental stuff. TomHanksOfficial LIVES!! https://soundcloud.com/tomhanksofficial
This is a lil sample-based instrumental track I was working on today. I’m posting this more for myself than anything else and also because I don’t really know what to do with it. I’m finally learning how to sample in Ableton tho! Progress is cool! Learning new things is cool!!!!
he is not old enough

I can’t tell if I hate this song or not, but this is what I have been working on today.
