I have a question that anyone can feel free to answer.
Okay, let’s start off with the base context that anytime a fandom wants to assume a beloved character is gay, and other parts of the fandom that DON’T want to assume that character is gay reminds the first part that there is no proof or context that said character is gay, that’s a bad, terrible, homophobic way of reasoning.
Secondly, let’s assume the context that wanting a character to be gay so badly is called “fetishizing homosexuality” by a person who is either indifferent to the character’s sexuality or actually is strictly against them being gay. Let’s then assume that people who want the character to be gay get mad over this, and say it’s NOT fetishizing homosexuality.
Fine, but let me ask you this. What does this character lack for you to enjoy that they absolutely MUST be gay? Furthermore, let’s narrow down the list of things that they HAVE to be gay for in order for your ideas of this character to work. What does this character becoming gay give to you that the base iteration of this character does not?
Far as I can tell, the only things that differ from a straight person to a gay person that are undeniably and unflinchingly different between the two are love interests and sexual preference. A person’s sexuality doesn’t identify if they’re gonna be a nice, friendly person, or someone who cares about doing the right thing, or if they’re gonna be a jackass and ruin peoples’ lives. It literally only identifies who they are sexually and romantically attracted to.
So before you go around discrediting anyone who claims you’re fetishizing a type of sexuality because that’s what you want this beloved character to be, really stop and ask yourself why it’s so important to you that this character be gay.
