my older friend who became like my adoptive dad passed away last night. i was with his wife all day to keep her company but it ended up being a full house with his friends, family, and neighbors coming to celebrate his life. his mom (who's almost 100) kept saying to everyone "the only one who's missing right now is [____], but i'm glad to see all of you here. i've heard so much about you from him that it's like i already know you" and when i hugged her goodbye, she held me back to say "please check in on [his wife] often, i've never seen her without him for the past 50 years that they've been together" 😭

going through photo boxes with my friend's wife to find pics of him for his memorial slideshow. i've never seen their wedding photos before, they're so fucking cute. plus so many of his childhood to young adult pictures where he's still really healthy. this is the best catharsis + we have help from a little buddy supervising us 🐶

#i was like yes ma'am and holding back tears bc his wife was getting mad at me when i would cry bc she would start crying too #i can't catch a break why do so many people around me keep passing away #two uncles and two aunts within the last three years #one of my sister's close friends and now one of my close friends #five of those six were quite old already but still man what the fuck #it's still a shock #i feel selfish saying this since i'm alive but sometimes i genuinely feel cursed #even though logically i know a lot of my family is getting older it's just a lot
