“so i’ve noticed,” she sighed, shaking her head. “i don’t know how you do it. be so… nonchalant about all of this. he may have loved me once but i don’t know if they still do. call me crazy but it’s hard to love someone when you just met them today like they did!”

“what’s the point in getting worked up over it? i don’t want to be bitter and miss out on having fun.” he shrugged. “he might’ve met you today, but i think it’s in there somewhere. it’s like the ones who have forgotten have some resemblance to their old selves. spend more time with him, and i’m sure he’ll fall right back in love with you.”

“No, of course you couldn’t. And here I thought you were better than them, better than to have to go through all this shit just to get everybody back under the same rood. And yet…Nothing to show for it either.” She huffed as she stood staring up at Poseidon, narrowed glare as she shook her head.

“maybe you haven’t looked hard enough because there’s plenty to show for it. when was the last time you got everyone into the same room? hmm? last i checked you hadn’t.”

“I’m sure I won’t want to change that anytime soon either.” She grinned, feeling a slight zip of electricity spark as he teased her ever so slightly. “I’d love nothing more.” She took his hand, standing and following him towards the dance hall. “Are you much of a dancer baby?”

poseidon couldn’t help but grin as they entered the dance hall, pulling them along to the middle of the dance floor. “i can be when i want too. plus, doesn’t it just make the night more fun?”

“trust me, i know. i’m pretty sure my mother got in a few good shots at some point in time.” persephone dropped her head into her hands, shaking it. “i don’t know how to be charming to them! he was always the charming one, i don’t… i don’t know how to do this, poseidon.”

“everyone gets their shot in. good or bad. i invite it all.” poseidon wasn’t immune to his far share of push back from time to time. “you do know how to do this. just because he doesn’t remember doesn’t mean he’s not the same man who loved you before you could even admit it.”

“Come here you asshole. You were one of the people behind all of this?” Nemesis spotted the other from across the dance floor, anger blazing through her eyes.

his eyes rolled as soon as he heard the voice, waving the other off that he was dancing with before turning towards nemesis. “was it so hard to figure out by the invitations? you know i couldn’t let hermes or zeus have all the fun.”

“Oh, does it?” Heather gave her best softened grin as she tilted her head. Her intrigue in him being so interested in her always drew her closer to her. “I’m sure you’ll find just the right partner for the evening if that’s what you’re looking for.” Her blush deepened as she leaned towards him, getting closer with a pursed look. “I’ll see if I can make that happen. And tease away cutie. I love to see it. I’m here all night long.” She gave him a wink before blowing a kiss in his direction.

“i’m enjoying the partner i have now. no need to change that quite so soon.” he leaned into her, nipping lightly at her neck. “we’re going to have the best time, hedy.” poseidon stood up, holding out his hand to her. “let’s go dance and continue the party.”

“you know sometimes, i literally hate you,” she sighed, rubbing at her forehead. “i’m just going to say shut up before i try and punch you. and yeah, it’s great sitting next to my husband when they don’t even remember they’re my husband. a great fucking time, donny boy.”

“want me to add you to the list?” poseidon shrugged, “it wouldn’t be the first time someone’s punched me. i can add you to that list too. you aren’t using enough charm on him then. he’s loved you for long enough that even without his memories, i can’t imagine that just disappeared.”

her smile grew slowly at his words. she hadn’t wanted to be the only tipsy one, but it seemed that she would be in good company. ❝ alright, you’ve convinced me. ❞ she took another champagne from a passing waiter, raising her glass in  a motion of cheers. ❝ to dancing terrible later on. ❞

“that was quite easy to get you to drink more.” not that he minded how easy it was seeing he wanted all of the attendees to be wasted. poseidon grinned as he raised his glass towards her before finishing what he had left. “if we’re not all terribly dancing at the end of this, i think that’s a sign of a bad party. i wouldn’t want that at all.”

persephone rolled her eyes before she turned to face poseidon. “really? you had to put her by you? want to reminisce about horses again?” her hands went to her hips as she cocked her head. “really? who’s entertainment exactly?”

“of course i did. why wouldn’t i when we have so much to discuss? horses are beautiful creatures, i’m sure that could be a topic of discussion if she wants it to be.” poseidon couldn’t help but laugh, amused with teasing her. “for everyone’s. you can’t tell me it hasn’t been fun sitting next to your lover boy.”

“Maybe just a little bit.” Heather couldn’t help but find her smile all too easily sitting next to him. His compliments were by far some of her favorites, and she loved to hear just how far he could go. “I did promise to do that, but…you must know pretty much everyone here too, right? Or…your friends do, and they could probably hook you up with whoever you wanted tonight.” While she was mostly teasing, Heather found herself with with a very sincere smile. “I guess you’ll just have to keep me company and find out.”

“Good. The added color in your cheeks really brings out your dress.” Poseidon didn’t care so much of chatting anyone else up, but he didn’t know where the night would lead for them either. All he wanted to do for now was enjoy having her attention for as long as possible. “That’s true. There are plenty of people that I know, or know people that do. But we can figure that out as the night goes on. I’d rather be with you right now and see what happens.” He chuckled deeply, pushing a piece of hair back. “I think that can be arranged. i’m not going anywhere for as long as you want me around. Plus, I enjoy getting to tease you.”

“Are you trying to make me blush? You helped throw this extravagant party and decided to sit next to me?” She shifted in the seat to turn a bit more towards him with the light pink hue of her cheeks filling in. “Your flattery will only get you so far my little Donnie.”

“Is it work?” He chuckled, arm draping around the back of her chair. “You’re the only one I wanted to sit next too. We always have fun together, and at the very least you did promise to be my wingwoman.” Poseidon loved the color that came to her cheeks, his grin growing slightly. “Only so far? What else do I have to do to get a little farther?”

“at least my mother isn’t here to sit next to me,” seph sighed as she placed her name card back on the table. “knowing zara though, i bet she’s at the head of the table.. but did she put hera next to herself.” the goddess looked around before sneaking around the tables, trying to notice who was sat next to one another.

“of course she’s not near you, she’s near me.” poseidon teased her, coming up next to the woman. “curious, aren’t we? i promise the seating arrangements are for pure entertainment,”

“I don’t need to get laid Poseidon. If that’s all you think it takes to have a good time, I’m afraid you might be a bit more naive than even I thought. I enjoy things, and I would enjoy them a whole lot more if we were back to our former selves, but here I am, doing the work to restore that for all of us. I’m not mad at the world, if that’s what you truly believe. I’m upset at the situation that we were forced into, and at least I’m trying to do something about it now.”

“of course getting laid isn’t the only way to have a good time. i’m only saying maybe you need it. and of course things would be better if we were our former selves, we had it much easier. this isn’t something you’re doing on your own. we’re all helping and trying to get back to our lives. are you sure you aren’t? because all i can see is you being bitter with every little thing this work has to offer.”

Nothing quite like it either.” She enjoyed hearing of the other’s odd way of putting things, finding it amusing as far as she was concerned. “Well, let’s make no fuss about it for now. We can still have fun in the mean time. We seem to always let the fun find us. And of course I am. I love to see what buttons get people going, it’s an absolute delight.”

“i couldn’t agree more.” this life was nothing like his past life, and vice versa. each held there own pros and cons. poseidon let out a chuckle, head shaking. “have you seen my make a fuss about anything? especially not something like this. we’re going to have fun no matter what, and that’s not something i was worried about before. it’s not hard to tell you like pushing people’s buttons. have you figured out all of mine yet?”
