How To Pick Yourself Back Up
- after a tough day or a stressful event. we all experience times like these and the smallest things can make the biggest difference.
• start off by having a hot shower or bath. use some scented shower gel or lotions if you have any, do a face mask and take your time. these are optional but the main goal is to get yourself clean + feel refreshed.
• put on some comfortable clothes - whether it be pyjamas, your favourite t-shirt or sweatpants, just make sure that you’re comfy. although make sure that the clothes you choose are clean + that you change every so often.
• indulge yourself - watch your favourite movie(s), eat your favourite snacks, treat yourself to something that you’ve been wanting to buy for a while.
• talk to a family member or friend on the phone or in person. you don’t necessarily have to talk about your feelings or anything that you’ve been through, but if you feel like it would help then go for it.
• don’t feel like you have to do all of the cutesy self-care stuff, if you need to cry…then just cry, you’ll probably feel better afterwards.
• put yourself to bed at a reasonable time, if you can’t sleep then listen to some gentle music (there’s a band called Sleeping At Last that i listen to for this).
• if you feel like you’re in a better place, make some goals for your future. if you’ve been in a bad situation think about how you can move forwards from it.
• if you have a lot of thoughts going around in your head, write them down on paper or in a journal.
• think about how to get your mojo back + level up - do you want to join a club? change your hairstyle? pursue a new goal?
• read some self-help books to adjust your mindest.
• if you wear makeup, spend some time practicing it - the process of putting on makeup is theraputic + you will be distracted from any negative thoughts/feelings for a short time.
• if you feel able, spend a day with friends or family or go out on your own - do something fun like shopping, going to the cinema or having a drink at your favourite cafe.
