▲ The Evolution of Angine de Poitrine's Costumes ▲
shoutout to @julpernulper for inspiring me to do this after I wouldn't shut up about the details of their costumes when we were talking. NB: I didn't go any earlier than what was readily available to find because I have zero interest in seeing their real faces.

as seen in the teaser:
their first costumes were paper-mache, quite DIY, and and quite fragile. the polka dots on their clothes were painted by hand.
khn initially didn't wear a ski mask under his costume as he does now but instead just painted the exposed skin. the dollar signs over the eyes had also not been added and the braids were more shiny/satiny, and there were also less of them.
klek's helment also originally had spiral-y eyes instead of pyramid ones. also, his robe was not belted at the waist at first and was therefore quite restricting. the helmet was also taller/more cylindrical.

these costumes can be seen in the sahardnieh and sherpa music videos.
khn started wearing a ski mask. at first this was also painted with polka dots. the dollar signs weren't added until a little later, and he also put white paint around his eyes (which he stopped doing after the dollar signs were added, presumably because they shadowed his eyes enough).
klek's robe was now cinched at the waist and the eyes were now the familiar pyramids, but the helmet was still quite blocky because of the paper mache it was made of. his shoulders were more well defined.

these costumes are mostly the same as 2024 except for the addition of the dollar signs. However, they eventually start showing signs of wear due to them still being DIY paper-mache.
for example, khn's mask wasn't held against his face all that well due to it being attached to the front of his hat, as can be seen in the fmc promo and in this radio-canada interview.
because the paper-mache was still fragile, you can see the costumes getting cracked and worn as time goes on (from the same radio-canada interview.) they eventually look like they're being held together with tape and hope.

they finally got proper sturdy costumes! as they mention in this podcast interview (that features their real voices!!), they're no longer paper-mache. these are the costumes that appear in the viral KEXP video and subsequent performances (technically, they got these costumes made right before their tour in france, so late 2025).
khn's mask is now behind his hat and fits his face better. the eye holes are less downturned/almond-shaped and the mask itself has a more rounded jawline. the dollar signs are also set a little more forward instead of being glued to the eye holes directly to improve visibility. his hair is also fuller and reaches all the way around to the mask instead of only being around the back.
klek's helmet is properly rounded and the nose swings much freer. the shoulders are defined but more rounded. the triangle on the front of his robe is printed as opposed to glued on.
both of their outfits are now printed with dots instead of being painted.
oh and also they light up now!
thank you microtonal math rock aliens for making the world a better place!
Reblog to save this post for easy viewing later. they are adorable
